Capitol Police Announce ‘Active Bomb Threat Investigation’ Near Campus

U.S. Capitol police announced Thursday morning that they are conducting an “active bomb threat investigation” tied to a suspicious vehicle near the Library of Congress.

It is good to know that they are not just sitting on this information and seeing whether something develops, like they did when there was a spike of interest in tunnels around the Capitol shortly before 1/6, despite other information of impending harm.

Considering the diversionary role a pair of pipe bombs played in fouling up the 1/6 response, I’m sure they’re taking this even more seriously than they normally would (which would be severe).

What? You mean there’s no “good guy with a bomb” to counteract the “bad guy with a bomb”?

OT, but still in the criminal vein:

IANAL, but…obstruction of justice? Interfering with a criminal investigation? Aiding and abetting?

Seems appropriate that the illiterate would target a library…

Yeah, and next they’ll be targeting a factory that makes soap, deodorant, and toilet paper.

The Library of Congress contains the Congressional Research Service. That group of about 400 people do almost all of the legal and historical research work for the Senate and the House. They are the brains of Congress. They write the reports. If they were wiped out, we would learn very quickly just how dumb our Congressional Branch of Government really is. IMHO, losing the capacity and the resources of the Library of Congress is a much bigger blow than losing the elected blowhards of the Empty Chamber and the House of Representatives. But, then again, my first post-grad degree was an MLS/MIS. I am somewhat biased. :pensive:

Think this through, right-wing loons. The stuff you’ve done so far has, to your own astonishment, not sparked a “revolution” that would bring you your Christmas pony and all your other wishes. But that stuff has gone far to make people realize we have the worst threat right here at home. Washington gets school groups and tourists from all over the country. You put them in a collateral-damage situation and they’re going to insist you be dealt with. I commend this thought as well to your fellow travelers in politics and the media. This is not the horse to back, assholes.

Just filling an increasing void, Amazon figures. From the article:

“More stores bolster Amazon’s whole ecosystem and flywheel,” said Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData, a research and consulting firm that tracks the retail market. “They also allow Amazon to gather data and to understand consumer preferences better — understanding that can, in turn, be used to improve the whole proposition.”

Traditional department stores, he noted, have been declining for years because of a “failure of innovate and adapt.” Stores such as Macy’s, J.C. Penney and Kohl’s, which made up about 15 percent of retail sales in 1985, now account for less than 3 percent, Saunders said.*

IANAL either and I’m learning what can seem to obviously be one crime or another can fail to meet some very specific qualities it has to have, so I’ll just say it seems obviously somehow criminal to hide a person the FBI wants to talk to. I imagine these morons view themselves not as deluded dopes but as freedom fighters, so they don’t see it quite like we do.

OK this is weird.

They seem to have enough money to keep the lawyers happy, or invested. Probably not the best, or moral, lawyers , but on the cheap. Good enough to keep the law a distance.

I can’t imagine any competent lawyer would condone your hiding a witness from the FBI in a “safe house.” It’s misprision. They’re officers of the court.
