Canadian Anti-Vax Trucker Protests Feed The Far-Right Machine

I would add fuel prices to the mix here. Global oil production has not kept up with demand (hence higher prices), and there is the need to reduce production to hit climate goals. For example, reduce production in the Alberta tar sands. As fuel prices rise, it becomes harder for truckers to get higher wages and politicians get voted out of office. We saw the exact same trucker movement emerge in Finland, clogging the streets of Helsinki for a couple days as the city was already digging out of a snow storm. The commonality, gas is now over 2 euros a liter (about $8.64 a gallon). 86% of Finland’s entire population is fully vaccinated and 57% are already boosted, so this isn’t just vaccine resistance. These are people that also got fucked economically in the 2008 Great Recession and never recovered or are the children of such people. That’s what’s so great about right-wing propaganda, the conflation of grievances and this trucker business is a textbook example.

Two words: “residential schools.” Oh, and “60s scoop.”

Otherwise, I have no opinion about the bland, white north.

Add to that the fact that the conservative rentier class was largely responsible for the devastating 2008 crash. They benefit both coming and going.

I lived for a time in Canada, and while they fully embrace individual rights, Canadians also appreciate order. Not like the “law and order” touted in the States, but regularity and efficiency. Of course in any population there will be a collection of malcontents, and those folks, after seeing the success of political chaos in the US, basically feel like they’re missing out on something. I have a feeling what will happen is the government will void the CDLs of the drivers involved and insurance companies will cancel their policies. When the “victims” of this “tyranny” complain, they’ll be be given a bunch of paperwork and told to go stand in a very long line.

Yep…from the get-go he tried to simultaneously paint himself as a big brave hero for helping “secure” the House chambers but also downplay the insurrection as not an insurrection, not a riot, not violent, justified, not Trump’s fault, definitely an inside job instigated by the FBI, nobody’s fault but Pelosi’s for her failure to secure the building and, of course, Ashli Babbitt was murdered in cold blood. He’s a tried and true TX KKKultist whose only loyalty is to the white supremacist Christian dominionist dream of permanent power at all costs.

Also, seems interesting timing for him to be yelling about his office being investigated…

What are they going to do if they need a tow? Call a towing company from the states? Nope. Most of them are not licensed to go into Canada. If they need a tow, they won’t have any choice. When you need a tow, you need a tow truck. Period. You don’t have a lot of options.

I look forward to the inevitable news report that U.S. Reichwingers are funding and fomenting this. My money is on this dude.

That’s what the military is for.

Of course, this requires the Canadian military to take a break from sexually assaulting women in the ranks.

Apart from setting up a hockey tournament between the truckers and Ottawa’s citizens, this would be the ultimate Canadian solution!

I live in MD, close into DC. I’ve seen what happens when they close the 395 tunnel.

Hope I was clear, the Ottawa government attempted to get tow truck companies to come in and tow out the trucks, the tow truck companies declined as they are afraid of alienating their customers, the truckers.

And if you lock those down, you’ve pretty much fucked up the entire city. Add a few trucks on 50 and 66 over on the VA side and you’ve really got a problem.

This is shaping up to be a successful terrorist operation.

So, who are these protesters? Because, either they are very wealthy to take off two-three weeks of work driving or they are unemployable as truckers because of their “freedom” while wanting to deny others the freedom to not hire them.
