JOHANNESBURG (AP) — At this very moment a vast world exists that’s free of the coronavirus, where people can mingle without masks and watch the pandemic unfold from thousands of miles away.
I’d have changed the headline—no place can remain free from covid if a person with covid goes there—but still interesting. When I was little it was still common to give kids stories to read about explorers and so forth, and the idea of the Antarctic was fascinating. Never became a fearless explorer myself, but I always enjoyed travel and seeing new places, so maybe it left a mark.
For the Covid 19 in its present form to survive in Antartica,I guess this would have to take place and if it did it
would be a terrible virus to contain, anywhere.
“mu·ta·tion”
“the changing of the structure of a gene, resulting in a variant form that may be transmitted to subsequent generations, caused by the alteration of single base units in DNA, or the deletion, insertion, or rearrangement of larger sections of genes or chromosomes”
Kinda makes sense to this layman,if wrong Looking forward to being educated on subject.
That was the argument six months ago - about how the warmer weather in the US would kill the virus.
Having spent a week in Australia last year and seeing that my colleagues were being asked to return there in November, I pointed out to those arguing this point that Australia was still in summer weather in February and they were still seeing significant spikes of activity.
And then, of course, summer here in States didn’t kill the virus either…
ETA: oh, and Australia is coming out of winter now and Melbourne is on lockdown.
