In the first substantial blow to the Trump administration’s redistricting power grab in red states across the country, California voters on Tuesday approved a proposal to redraw the state’s congressional district lines. Governor Gavin Newsom and state Democrats pushed the measure to help offset Trump’s nationwide gerrymandering blitz in red states. The ballot measure’s success…

CF-DJT is a loser! And what do losers do? They lose.

(And then claim the game is rigged against them.)

Any lawn signs saying “Vote No On 50: Protect The Vote”, or some such claptrap, reveals that the person who’s lawn it is is a fraud and/or an idiot, i.e., a Republican.

AP called it at 8 on the dot, based on polling of 4,500 registered CA voters by phone, prior to, or in-person on Election Day. A clear win based on that, before the Secretary of State had posted a single vote. Running 2 to 1 with 6M votes tallied. Real safe call for AP.

Josh talks about the “GOP dominance over current press narratives”, which has certainly been true within the US. But more broadly, the US political transformation over recent decades has been disturbing. For Europe, which has to deal with building an economic confederation and security issues such as Ukraine and migration, there has long been this hope that Americans ultimately do the right thing. At least some of the press narratives in Europe have pushed back against the far right. We see this in the coverage of the recent Dutch parliamentary elections. The upcoming elections in Hungary this spring are of particular interest, as the spell of Orban, who has dragged down the country to having the worst-performing economy in Europe, may be finally broken. Orban, more than Berlusconi, pioneered the idea of a centralized media hub for right-wing story-telling. Sound familiar?

California voters to Republican politicians–drop dead. Democracy belongs to the people not the politicians.

Newsom has hit a cord with the voters.

Certain local stories deserve national coverage. The developer betrayal of the 1956-established Molbak plant nursery in Woodinville, WA a garden town northeast of Seattle, should have been a warning. But no, billionaires in sheep’s clothing instead. Most billionaires don’t seek political office to govern in your interest.

Hokey smokes, Bullwinkle! Who could have guessed that sending in thugs and Marines to arrest and harass lawful Citizens would lead directly to election losses?

Does anyone know if Qevin’s quondom district is one of those moved to likely Democrat status? That would be a beautiful bit of payback. I don’t expect it did, because the Central Valley is the place to pack R voters in a gerrymander.

I’m very glad that California voters care enough about the United States of America to pass Proposition 50, but I’m simultaneously mourning the fact that this was necessary.

And now that the results are in across the country, that chord has been hit wherever there were elections. Republican votes dropped even in red counties and Democrats outran Democrats who won in the last few elections. It’s a pattern the pundits and TV anchors declared!
