Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has passed away. She was 90.
Feinstein was the Senate’s longest ever serving woman and the body’s oldest member. First elected in 1992, Feinstein broke new ground throughout her career: She was San Francisco’s first female mayor in 1978 and, after being elected to the Senate, became the first-ever female member of the Judiciary Committee.
Sad to hear the news, and condolences to the family.
Dianne Feinstein was a part of my life starting when I moved to SF- first as a County Supervisor, then Mayor, and then Senator. She has done us proud in many, many ways.
Imagine having tens (hundreds?) of millions of dollars and spending your dying days being wheeled into your office like a mannequin. What an utter waste.
Her obit’s now going to be dedicated to her refusal to step down, and her health issues, rather than her career. Total self-inflicted wound.
At least we’ll have her legacy of supporting America’s massive post-9/11 surveillance state to remember her by.
So what are the odds the Republicans actually allow Feinstein’s replacement onto the Senate Judiciary Committee? I’m thinking the odds are unlikely given the narrow control we have if the Senate.
I’m sure it will end with one of his long drawn-out silences in honor of his nonagenarian colleague, then perhaps a trip to the hospital himself for his closing days. Just hoping.
