Some pretty epic photos!
Clouds hover in the background Hollywood skyline
Those clouds look just like mountains!
Cow: What the…?
And that looks apocalyptic. The last Carl’Jr, waiting for a customer that will never come.
Meanwhile, here in rural Quebec it’s pushing 45 degrees Farenheit and raining!!
The times they be a’weirding…
Here in NYC we got maybe 2 inches of snow in total the whole winter. And that just ain’t right. Boo on extreme radical far-west California for stealing our great great beautiful snow! Fake snow! So sad.
You can say celsius or centigrade. We’ll be fine down here and won’t turn all commie or atheist or something.
We’re saying Farenheit chez Rowlf right now because we’re certain it’s a Yank heatwave that’s hitting us right now. The neighbors are saying it’s all our fault, since we obviously brought it with us!
And in Washington, DC the Right-Wing know-nothings still profess that there is no climate change.
We had nothing to do with it and just passed it along. Probably another open borders weather attack from Mexico.
You don’t need a climatologist to know which way the stupid blows.
Nice photos. However storms may be heavier this year, one would never know from much of the reporting that both the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mts have snow many, if not most years. There’s both a downhill and x-c area in the first and people x-c ski the closed portion of the Angeles Crest Highway along the latter.
I used to live in L.A. My family took vacations and quick getaways at Arrowhead and Big Bear, and later I did the same with friends. Yes, it’s true there was snow in the winters, and some years, there was even a lot of snow. But in my experience, there was never any snowstorm like what these photos show.
Those photos from the Sierra Nevada should help you understand what happened to the Donner Party, which confronted something like 20 feet in 1846-47. It was a miracle (if that’s the word you choose, but there are others that are applicable) that any of them survived.
I agree, you’ve given us a lot to chew on…
I don’t usually complain but California is a big state yet your photos are all in Southern California. Either change the Headline to reflect you are only doing a small corner of the state or show pictures from all the disparate sections that have been impacted by snow (and then when it rains on the snow you get floods)
As for “Historic Snow Storms” how about 1952, the year of record breaking snow in Northern Sierras and the streamliner getting stuck in the snow for a week?
My brother lives in Big Bear and he’s more than willing to give his snow to you. I did point out that he moved to the mountains because they “wanted Seasons”. Well, there you go. That one is winter and sensible people avoid it.
Mammoth Lakes is not in SoCal
