CA Governor Puts Kibosh On Bars, Indoor Dining Amid ‘Alarming’ COVID-19 Spread | Talking Points Memo

California will shut down bars and end the indoor operations of restaurants, wineries, movie theaters and other establishments to slow the “alarming” speed of COVID-19’s spread in the state, the governor said Monday.

Lockdown round 2 has commenced.

Gonna be a long time until January 20th.

Waiting for the Trump criticism of Gov. Newsome. At least Newsome is doing SOMETHING about the virus spread.

Newsom knows Covid cannot be wished away. At least he’s paying attention to the science.

Stay home to drink. And drink. And drink.
Who needs to go to a bar?

He’s spent the last two months wishing it away, by all appearances.

Meanwhile in the fantasyland that is Orange County:

“Ahead of the 6 p.m. meeting, the board released a document of recommendations for reopening schools, saying that social distancing among students is “not necessary” and wearing masks is difficult to implement and “may even be harmful.””

That’s okay. It’s hot in Orange County, so the COVID just disappears.

At least the state is trying to do this “right”. Until we get a national policy, with a real sense of purpose and consistency, the efforts of states will probably lead to mixed results.

Trump has just been such a multidimensional disaster, it is hard to realize just how destructive this man and his enablers have been. My sincere hope is that the present version of the republican party, with its toxic blend of ideology, power hunger, and abandonment of responsibilty, will go extinct, never to return.

How about instituting the death penalty for staging an LA underground party?

DeSantis? …Desantis?..DeSantis?..

From what we’ve seen of COVID, that is probably implicit.

They need to keep these places open because Marco Rubio says there is no threat. Get with it California!

Not quickly enough. It’s like the mass shooter who offs himself after the carnage.

My own south SF bay county has just opened non-essentials like salons today, using its risk reduction strategy. Fingers crossed it is sustainable.

Counties on the governor’s “watch list” for troubling coronavirus trends — which now totals 30 counties — must also shutter almost all non-essential indoor activities, including gyms, hair salons, places of worship, malls and offices. In the Bay Area, Contra Costa and Marin are currently the only counties on the list. But Newsom said Monday that he expects to add Alameda County within the next day.

And California once again will lead the nation in what should be done to get the coronavirus under control. This really still came too late, even here, but Newsom is acting far faster than most of the Republican governors…it’s going to be horrific there, especially since they still aren’t taking even the actions that CA has before this new shutdown. Note that it’s not a full shutdown, outdoor dining will go on, but they are again restricting things where people congregate indoors. It’s what the science says to do, we’ll see if the virus starts to tamp down in a week or so.

And, I’m sure we’ll also soon see the lawsuits from selfish cretins who don’t want to have to abide by any restrictions on their “freedumbs”…selfish assholes, let’s hope the smart leaders don’t let them have any sway this time, and that they actually tell them off for a change.

ETA: Los Angeles and San Diego counties have also announced that they will only do online learning in the fall, no in-person instruction. There may be details to that, I just saw the headline, but that is very good news…big school districts ignoring the Trump administration’s efforts to force schools to open this fall will help districts that don’t feel they can stay closed for political reasons.

In my area of SoCal - where there are a lot of Republicans - most people are observing social distancing and masks. Decidedly we are not Orange County.

No. Not alarming. Entirely predictable.

Who in CA didn’t see this coming? Thank you Orange and San Bernardino Counties. It’s all about your freedoms.

Gov is likely watching both Texas and New York- he’s chosen one!
