Buttigieg Urges ‘Clear Direction’ On Infrastructure Negotiations By Next Week | Talking Points Memo

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Sunday demanded that a “clear direction” on infrastructure talks is needed by June 7, when members of Congress return from recess, after a group of GOP senators responded to President Biden’s infrastructure plan last week with a proposal that accounts for a fraction of the $1.7 trillion in spending that the White House has proposed.

We will negotiate. We will not capitulate.

“I think we are getting pretty close to a fish-or-cut-bait moment,” Buttigieg said, before noting that “on the fishing side of things, the negotiations have been healthy.”

However, it’s best to be prepared …

The Republican proposal is a nonstarter, really leaving no place for good faith negotiations to continue. I’m with Senator Gillebrand here, cut bait already. The American people will judge Democrats by the success of their plan and not on whether or not any Republicans signed on.

GOP: ”Biden’s $1.7 trillion infrastructure bill is a lot.”

Also GOP: ”Trump’s $2.3 trillion tax cut for billionaires is not a lot.”

Nice touch, Team Biden (Pete didn’t do this by himself).

Got to think this is a signal from the White House.

The main thing is this:

People have got to want this. And so much depends on the degree/strength of want. Absent agonizing on GOP intransigence, that’s what’s happening right now.

That and the Wayward Dems

Has anyone told Ms Capito that this the 21st century and not the 20th?

I watched the interview this morning. I was impressed. Buttigieg has a way (has always had a way) of portraying liberal policies as conservative. I hope Team Biden keeps him out in front of this.

If anyone has the ability, I think Buttigieg has that ability to convince people that they want this.

“Also, we could spread it over an eight-year period of time, and that’s exactly what we have done.” -Capito

Good news, fellow West Virginians. The Republican budget has passed! That busted road that’s bothered everybody forever and killed a few people…? Well, that’s in the bill.

Yes, sir. We’re gonna start to begin that in 2030. Just part of the Republican strategy to make America great eventually.

She’d first have to change from the GOP’s 19th century thinking to do that.

I do too. I like Buttigieg so much the minute he begins to talk. You are right that he has a way of framing policies that make them easy for everyone to swallow and feel really good about doing it.

Trump’s $2.3 trillion went directly to the job creators so they could increase their net worth on a dollar for dollar basis, while Biden’s $1.7 trillion creates jobs that will, at best, indirectly increase their net worth on a marginal basis. It’s called trickle down and we all know that doesn’t work.

Yeah, but for some reason the big box with the bells and gigantic mouthpiece on her office wall never seems to receive the calls.

"May I remind you that the man is gay? He’s a deviant. We used to arrest people like Buttigieg. And for good reason.

“I’m not saying he’s bad. I’m saying his progressive ideals run counter to my preferred constituent’s wishes. His ideas are more queer than he is,” said your average Guardian Of Pedophiles mouthpiece.

I agree too. Being from Indiana, he knows firsthand how to speak with conservatives. And it’s his innate personality - calm, measured, intelligent, and even-tempered. Also, he’s not black. That helps a lot also. Because, otherwise, they would have loved Obama.

OT: If Michael Flynn’s pension isn’t revoked, there’s something seriously wrong. Also, his pardon can’t possibly cover ongoing threats against the government, I would think.
