We’re aching for and deserving of solid proposals for how they’re going to run their presidency. What might their proposals be as of Day One for how they’re going to reverse the damage of the current administration. Where are they on gun control, the environment (if the damage there is not yet too far gone), what about a stance on reproductive rights?
I agree Biden still has a chance because to date he has black support, thank you BHO, but Butt will run into prejudice in quarters that so far have kept quiet. But that’s just me.
Pete’s mayor stint may be included in things B’berg eventually says in his ads. Mayor of a town of 100,000 versus mayor of a city of almost 9 million. You decide.
I don’t think that’s just you at all. People have been pretty open that our more religious demographics aren’t going to be down with a gay president, but less spoken about is the fear among the socially liberal that a gay man simply can’t win. That’s hurting Buttigieg too, and I quite frankly take my hat off to him for getting as far as he has. That speaks volumes to the quality of candidate he actually is.
Buttigieg has been getting a pass. He should not be on that stage at all. He is young and arrogant and Trump will eat him alive. He is just shocked that Biden came after him so effectively. I am for Warren, but I am glad to see that Biden still knows what to do in a knife fight. We need more Dems who do. (In fact the thing I like best about Pete is that I think he would willingly shiv someone in a knife fight, so with a bit of real experience, some maturity, and a little less arrogance, I could see myself supporting him in the future. We can not beat the Republicans playing by Marquess of Queensberry rules.)
Uh oh. Not quite bone spurs or draft deferment like rMoney got because of religious work, but more like Bill’s deferments.
Biden received student draft deferments during this period, at the peak of the Vietnam War, and in 1968, he was reclassified by the Selective Service System as not available for service due to having had asthma as a teenager.
It’s an issue, but it can cut both ways. Biden’s “experience” often seems to be frozen in time, somewhere back in the 1980’s when comity with Republicans and working across the aisle was the thing. He seems to think that just installing himself in the WH instead of Trump will magically restore that era. That’s a bad kind of experience to be selling.
All the candidates are flawed in one way or another on experience, like my current favorite Warren, who would need to surround herself with some heavy expertise on foreign policy.
One thing Buttigieg has going for him, is his time as an ensign in Naval Intelligence and in Afghanistan with boots on the ground. He’s more than “just a mayor of a small city” in that respect.
Biden’s ad smacks of desperation, and I think it is likely to do his campaign
harm; he looks petty and weak–which we don’t need.

By the way, last night when Joe was taking credit for singlehandedly saving Roe v. Wade by personally keeping Robert Bork off the Supreme Court, he didn’t mention that he was also chair of the Judiciary Committee during the Clarence Thomas hearings. I wonder why not?
I consider Buttigieg military experience as a plus when evaluating his qualifications. But to claim that his service qualifies him as one of those who “fought for American democracy”, you must believe that Afghanistan war was a fight for American democracy. Do you believe this?
Wtf does a military record have to do with anything? Taking orders is not leadership and serving in the military is not the only way to fight for American democracy. In fact, I’d say our teachers and professors who are trying to instill some knowledge in our youth (against the odds) and our scientists who are at the forefront of trying to save our planet are engaged in the real fight for America’s future. Joining the military is the easy way to score political points. Some of these candidates (except Warren) need to try getting into an inner-city classroom and fighting to teach math, science, civics, history and the special place of America in the world without money, books and tools. Then come back and talk to me about what they did to fight for America and democracy.
