By the way a little while ago I called Sen. John Cornyn’s local office, and talked to a staff person. The number is 512-469-6034 for any other central Texans out there, or you can leave a comment via his Washington number or a fax via faxzero.com.
Anyway, his position is that first, he doesn’t think it’s an impeachable offense. (I didn’t ask for detail, like whatinthefuck would be?). Also, that he supports a “bipartisan investigation”.
Then coming here I see this story just posted, so he’s good on his word on the last one. Now let’s see if it’s actually an investigation, or an merely an attempt to slow-roll and cover up.

Warner won’t let Burr get away with putting out a report that has cover for Trump in it, he will insist on an accurate report (which may have cover for Trump IF the facts support it). Burr may try shenanigans, but he’ll regret generating a report that is vastly different from the House version…that one for sure will be based in facts and not hold any Trump water (again, IF facts support Trump I expect it to say that, Schiff will be honest even if it doesn’t take Trump down, which is how it should be).
The Republicans will be trying every dirty trick in the book to keep Trump, at least some of them will…some would rather be rid of him, look for them to choose party over Trump, just like they choose party over the nation, it’s always about power for them and once Trump doesn’t help them keep power he’s gone.

OT, but take a look at Gabriel Sherman’s VF article. Apparently, Paul Ryan (yes, that Paul Ryan) thinks Fox should pull away from Trump and feels he’s finally in a position to do something about it! I guess that Speaker gig wasn’t powerful enough? Still a spineless toad, I see. Somethings never change.

Chuck Colson had that on a plaque in his office. Not sure if he got it back once he was released from prison. Might not be a bad idea for members of this admin to start securing their personal belongings now.
Fun fact: Colson was the first of Nixon’s henchmen to go to prison. Sure wasn’t the last, though.

Oh, they can spin anything…whether the spin sticks is another matter. It will with the base, they will believe anything, and the Republicans will hold onto Trump as long as it keeps the base happy. When it becomes obvious that base happiness is outweighed by other concerns, then they will drop Trump like a hot rock…senators will obviously go first, because some of them have to win enough independents to keep their seats. We’re already seeing some of this movement, some Republicans see a chance to get away from Trump in this and are taking it…but, we’ve seen that show before, they will crawl back if Trump survives.

I’m old enough to have watched the Watergate hearings. This bullshit with Ukraine is far worse. Trump is so rabidly criminal and so bent on self-enrichment that it makes Nixon look like a straight shooter. In 1973-1974 there was still some degree of honor in the republican party (some rethugs were actually decent people). Those days are so over. Today’s GOP is nothing more than a crime syndicate led by a buffoon. This is the straw that broke the back. Raise holy hell with your Congress critter and demand that Trump and Pence be booted and jailed.
