Burr Blasts NC GOP’s Censure: ‘Truly A Sad Day’ That They’ve ‘Chosen Loyalty To One Man’

“My party’s leadership has chosen loyalty to one man over the core principles of the Republican Party and the founders of our great nation.”

These words will fall on deaf ears.

They make Impeachment meaningless, but want censure to mean something…?

Burr went against the Political Personality Kult-Kult-Kult of Benadick Donnie Two Impeachments.

Of course it lashed out.

“The NCGOP agrees with the strong majority of Republicans in both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate that the Democrat-led attempt to impeach a former President lies outside the United States Constitution.”
When he was impeached on January 13, 2020, he was still the President (i.e., not a “former” President). An explanation of both of those facts (impeachment is the sole responsibility of the House, and the President’s term doesn’t expire until January 20) can be found in the Constitution, a document which the NCGOP purports to rely on.

And he’s just realizing this? Does this guy have rocks for brains? Who put him in charge? Who does this knucklehead think voted for him in?

I’m not sure if it’s loyalty exactly we’re talking about, or if it’s only to one man. But yeah, Richard, these and many others have been sad days. I’m a little sad people like you didn’t see them coming sooner and do something about it.

What exactly is the point of these censures? For some Republicans it is loyalty to Trump but to what end? Do they honestly think that after a civil rapture he will rein until the end of time?

I suspect for most party operatives it’s about enforcing blind loyalty to the party. They would do the same for any GOP POTUS, ex or otherwise.

EDIT: Let’s not forget, that these same diehard Trumpers also believed George W ruled with a divine blessing. The GOP base is very much a theocratic party.

So much for Reagan’s 11th Commandment. Retribution is the new GOP thing. So If were Burr or Collin’s I’d get some. sidle over the aisle and work with Biden. Why not? Collin’s is on her last term. Nothing to lose. “Get Some” GOP’ers. If your local yokel GOP’er club gets pissed just tell them a man once said “always get even” and you listened.

I’m not sure it’s as principled as that. They’re pissed off and this is a kick in the teeth. It’s crude revenge.

Trump is not a man now or ever.
He hires people to do what he considers manly activities and then takes credit and acts like he was there.
If someone refuses to do manly things for him they are branded a coward.
How anyone can fear him is beyond belief.

Did they really say that under our Constitution Democrats can’t impeach a Republican President? IOKIYAR elevated to a Constitutional level. Remember when the Democrats impeached Trump he was still President.

“My party’s leadership has chosen loyalty to one man over the core principles of the Republican Party and the founders of our great nation.”

I quibble with the “my party’s leadership” because it’s almost the entire party, especially the base, that has chosen loyalty to one man over all else. They have no policies, no principles, no belief system. Nothing. All that is left of Republicanism is Trump and this sycophantic fealty to him. In many cases, they’ve chosen fealty to that asshole over their own children and grandchildren. It’s a cult, not a political party anymore. I hope folks like Burr keep saying some version of this. While it may not resonate with the cultists (who cares what resonates with them?), there are those on the margins who didn’t sign up to be in a cult and need reminding that voting Republican is essentially doing so.

Temporary, and only got that far because the left didn’t show up that day (they had planned for the normal after-dark dancing with the proud boys downtown, not a full-daylight Capitol invasion).

Pretty much everywhere the right and left show up at the same place ready to party, the right ends up slinking off.

I suspect this may be the bottom enforcing loyalty to itself upward. Trump and the tribe are one, and all you fancy senators and your ma’aming and your Miss Mayellerin’ don’t come to nuthin! You’re a buncha stinkin’ cowards! Nobody has the right to tell them the plain truth about themselves and their hero, not even their own representatives, nobody has the right to say what the plain and obvious truth is, and if they do the tribe will punish them to the extent it can. Have a feeling that’s what we’re seeing here.
