What a horrible waste of life. Those poor people who were murdered didn’t need to die. This dumb racist kid deserves the punishment he has coming. That said he wasted his own life too. It did not have to turn out this way. Sad and pathetic.

IANAL, you can tell by my shoes, but I am presuming these specific charges carry a heavier penalty than the initial murder charge. Can we get a little detail on that, TPM?

Why do these fuckers plead “Not Guilty”? I get the advice of their lawyers, but shouldn’t they be proud of what they’ve done? Where is his manifesto now?

Edit to add:

For some reason I have “where is your manifesto now?” Delivered by Edward G Robinson. (Or Chief Wiggum)

The first charge was just so they could hold him, most states require a charge within some short period of time to keep someone in jail. This is just the rest of the charges from the crime, and it sounds about appropriate. The murder charges are the same as the first one, the rest are lesser penalties than for murder.

As much as this sob deserves prison and for a long time, what I fear is that he will find some Aryan White Brotherhood prison gang to glom onto, and that they will protect him and treat him as a hero while he learns new nazi skills. How can we make sure he ends up in a nazi-free and white supremacist-free prison environment? Make sure he has to serve in Puerto Rico? At an ICE facility? We need to figure this out, to think outside the box here.

@irasdad. You workshopping this response in the Catskills?

This guy is still alive? How did that happen

There’s a reason modern militaries lust after kids this age: They’re young and impressionable enough not just to run toward bullets, but also to pump them into others.

In that youthful impressionability (ironically enough) lies our hope, because if they can be warped into hate and murder – as this one, and so many others, were – they alternatively can be shaped into compassion and virtue.

Youth is clay. How they end up, molded and hardened, is in our hands – and the GOP suicide cult has grabbed way too many of them from us.

My god. Another shooting with several deaths at a medical facility in Tulsa. Gunman is also dead.

Explain this one away, too.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter whether it’s rotting in a cell, hailed as a hero, treated as a pariah, saved through forgiveness and repentance, steadfast in his hatred, forgotten as a footnote, reduced to statistic, or any other outcome, every breath he takes is one more than those who he took away.

Yeah, he might actually end up king of his cell block. The cool kid in prison attire. Problem for him, he is still in prison and buried.

[It is a shame Rittenhouse didn’t end up the same as well.]

To borrow from a recent headline here,

Why do we even have a justice system if prosecutors can’t convict Rittenhouse, a murderer?
