LONDON (AP) — The British government warned Monday that it may introduce more draconian measures to slow the spread of the coronavirus if people persist in ignoring social distancing recommendations and crowding public places.
Good on ‘em. America should do the same thing. We won’t, of course, because the stable genius thinks it might hurt the stock market. Plus, he’s aching — ACHING! — to reopen his golf courses. You know he’s jonesin’ bad.
We’re going to really get to see the virus run rampant once the asshole spring breakers get home. I’m sure their soon-to-be-infected (if they’re not already) families are going to be happy to see them.
P.S. Thanks, Southern governors, for keeping those beaches open and those bars a’hummin’. I’m sure, like me, we’re all dyin’ to visit soon.
Their Boris emulated Donald by refusing to take things seriously for a long time. It sounds as though it’s going to get bad there too. Talk about a perfect storm. Ignorant arrogant idiots in charge when a worldwide crisis comes crashing down,
The US is not the only country that is blowing it. It’s just the biggest. Take Sweden for example. Most people think the Swedish system is great. But that country is not following the example of its neighbors, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Sweden has not introduced stricter policies or even social distancing. It hasn’t even closed down all of the schools. Instead it seem to be approaching serious folly by trying to establish herd immunity and allow people to contract the disease. My nephew is a teacher in Eskilstuna and teaches science for 8th and 9th grade at the international school there. He and other American and Canadian teachers are being forced to go to work tomorrow with no protections in place. They face a choice to stay home and risk their work Visas or get sick. But there are plenty of Swedish teachers that are furious about this. These teachers see about 200 students a day and the Swedish government is too worried about its economy to take this seriously. As for coming home, my nephew has a life there. He’s taught there for 4 years, and coming hone right now is nearly impossible. Flights are $2500 if you can find one (27 hours and 4 stops). When these countries get around to getting it right it will be like here - too little too late. But right now I’ll be damned if I buy anything from IKEA again.
I think that is why they didn’t shut down the parks and just asked people to behave responsibly. If that fails then they must take more drastic measures.
It’s just surprising to me because it seems that people naturally social distance themselves on trails and at the beach. As an introvert, I stay at least 3 feet away from even my friends when talking.
