The head of the FBI also serves a 10-year term for the same reason. Do you see the flaw in this system?
For realz this time! Looks like a great time to create a new WPA.
Thatās pure nonsense and doesnāt address what I said in the least.
If you live in a State that sends more money to the Federal Gov than it gets back, that could look very appealing. If you donāt live in such a State, not so much.
That might be a motivation in states that have underfunded their UI accounts. Declare the state open for business and safe to go back to work, and then deny UI claims.
Then how is it that this happened:
Whereās the oversight on this one? Why are Boeing and Ruthās Chris getting funds? The airlines, who have more money than Croesus and are already threatening significant reductions in service when this is all over? How is it that Harvard University got stimulus money when they have enough endowment cash to fund several third world countries (their justification is that there are restrictions on how that endowment money can be spent, but a couple of Zoom conferences with the Administrative board should fix that)? And then there are the demands of the Trump hotel chain.
I just donāt buy that any of this is protected, especially when Trump says F* oversight, Iām gonna do what I want. And these stories above are just within the last week.
Steve King is MR REPUBLICAN,his district is Republican central. That is a big deal.
Cuomo has his own response to McConnell Iām keeping it to party lines.
Welcome to Ayn AS IN MINE Randās America where the rich get golden parachutesā¦and everyone else gets an endless golden shower!
I have no predictions on a second wave. I think the media have been off-track and donāt recognize that we are still in the middle of a very big and long Wave 1. This Wave 1 is now very likely to get us to the range that Birx initially projected: 100k to 200k deaths.
The Media allowed Trump to delude them with the IHME study and their faulty 60k casualty prediction, and to overhype news that NY had reached a plateau (but as Gov Cuomo keeps saying, itās a very high plateau). Weāre nowhere close to opening up. If we maintained social distancing AND ramped up testing by June 1, we could conceivably have some opening up by July, but not before.
I could even see us opening in June if we just hyper focused on nursing homes, which appear to be about half the deaths at the moment. But we donāt have the focus at the federal level or from the media to do it in any meaningful way. Itās all a patchwork.
People tried to imagine the worst case scenario for the US. This is it. Our hospitals and blue state Govs were too good to let millions die. The worst case is that initial hot spots reach a high plateau while other statesā caseloads and fatalities grow. The virus rips through exurb and rural America where we have lower quality medical capabilities and that raises the fatality rates and extends the cycle of infection and death through most of the year. Thatās the abyss weāre staring into at the moment with Trump at the helm.
The quickest way to recovery is to force Trumpās resignation, let a weak Pence take over, hand the controls to the medical experts and state Govs and run a real national policy. Better still, Pence, who executed Trumpās policy to cover up the truth at the critical time should also resign, allowing Pelosi to become the POTUS. This whole thing would get right sized in 6 weeks if she were running things.
But our political system is broken and thatās why this crisis will persist through most of 2020.
The Trump administration provides a good argument for a new federalism.
First, you mean Pete King, not Steve King. Steve King is Mr Asshole.
Second, you mean Pete King is MR [IRISH] REPUBLICAN [ARMY].
Third, Pete King is in the House and has no effect on anything that happens in the Senate.
" Another 4.4 Million Jobless Claims Filed Last Week"
Dow up 267 pts
Getting unemployment has been a nightmare for millions of people across the country
With 22 million people trying to get unemployment at once, the system is overwhelmed.
Pete Kingās district on NYās Long Island includes some hard hit COVID towns. County and municipal budgets there are a mess, as is the NY State budget.
I stand corrected on Pete King.
āThird, Pete King is in the House and has no effect on anything that happens in the Senate.ā
He is Mr Republican like I said he has influence outside of the Senate.
Heās got a LOT of Police and Firemen living in his district,Staten Island also has large municipal workers makeup although thatās not his districtā¦
Perfect just perfect
If you expect the same Pence who let HIV run wild in Indiana to be more competent than Trumpā¦
imkmu3, Democrats only make up about 33% of the voters. The largest political party in the country is people that donāt vote. You have to give them a reason, and hectoring and brow-beating irregular voters isnāt a winning GOTV strategy that a lot of folks around here thinks it is. Neither is You owe us your vote, btw.
As much as people around here donāt want to hear it, What have you done for me lately? is still the majority political philosophy.
And brooklyndweller - you may not like it - but when NAFTA rolled out, the Democratic Party told factory workers that they needed to become java programmers.
Democrats are all about job training for jobs that simply donāt exist, or low-paying, or both - and they are never in the location where the unemployed are. You need to become an Okie right out the Grapes of Wrath isnāt getting people to vote for them.
Urban dwellers just donāt get that Sell you home (if you can), move to the big city (with no family support structure), pay for training (that you donāt have the money for), for a job that may or may not exist by the time you finish your training (See Allen Tofflerās Future Shock) isnāt a winning strategy.
City folk really donāt understand how NAFTA devastated rural 'Murika. When I would rattle off all of the factories that shut down that my family had worked in, I would be called a liar by Urban Democrats.
All of those factory jobs were replaced with - nothing.
But it is ok - Automation is coming for white collar workers, and they are going to get a taste of what blue collar workers have delt with over the last 30 years.
Presumably, that is why he is retiring.
Presumably that is also why he feels free to dump on McConnell. Itās amazing what the intention to retire does for oneās ability to speak oneās mind.
Not more competent, just incompetent in a different way.
