Until people can return to work safely and return to being on-site consumers safely, this isn’t going to get much better .- at least, not long-term.

And to do that, it’s going to take testing and a real plan to address the novel coronavirus. Almost 4 months in, and still no national plan. Even worse, continued attempts by the administration to prevent, disrupt and dismantle state and local plans and efforts. Magic vaccine and treatment proclamations are not going to do it. Nor is simply declaring victory before those exist.

Well - that IS their plan. Brought to you by the ‘we create our own reality’ people.

It works pretty well on the rubes - IE ‘Some of the people all of the time’

Sadly, Trump will take this as an indication that he needs to re-open America TODAY. Forget the virus, the sick, the dead and dying. TODAY.

After shelving a 17-page report from the CDC on how to SAFELY re-open the country, today, you can bet he will attempt to invalidate all the safer-at-home extensions and programs the States have enacted by threatening the governors with their Federal funding if they don’t re-open immediately.

He doesn’t get that he could actually have a shot at winning the election by doing it right and maybe actually save lives.

In the meantime, MAY I BE THE PERSON WHO DOESN’T BUY INTO WHATEVER LUNATIC CONSPIRACY THEORY IS CIRCULATING TODAY…

G-d, how we’ve descended.

Yet another bigly number that must be firmly attached to Drumpf’s legacy. Imagine what this could have been if Jared had not been leading the response?

You know how easily Trump uses cheap words of appreciation for our essential workers, our “front line”…

We give the military a free college education. Don’t our warriors on the cash registers deserve the same benefits?

I think we will need at least two baby goat pictures today :goat::goat:

Over 33 million claims have been submitted over the past seven weeks as many businesses deemed non-essential by state and local leaders remain closed.

While some Republicans would like you to believe that the state and local orders are alone the cause of such economic ruin, there is the whole death causing pandemic, which as Speaker Pelosi explained, is not a good economic motivator.

If you don’t like hypotheticals, read no further. But just imagine if Trump had simply paid attention when they told him there was a risk of a pandemic, said that doesn’t sound good, what should we do about it, and then gotten the hell out of the way and let the CDC organize a containment, testing and tracking, supply enhancement, and therapeutics and vaccine effort. We’d be in good shape like South Korea, instead of flat on our backs. Shaking my head.

Too happy to oblige:

Harper and Bow - Bow was born the day before Easter.

Matthew is still trying to figure out how to work the slide. Matthew and his brother James were named for a deployed soldier who was watching the birth from his overseas post.

Bingo. You hit it right on the head. This regime is SO sociopathic and depraved, they genuinely believe that if they stop talking about the pandemic and just ignore it, things will eventually go back to “normal.” Not a new normal, just “normal.”

We’re all finding out the hard way what the answer to the question “What have you got to lose” is.

The goats use the slide? At least some of them do? Is there video? I’m afraid if I google “goats sliding on slides” it could damage my computer somehow.

Matt, you’re teasing us with outlandish dreams again.

I know. Just the kind of mythical stories the old ones tell around the campfire about the Before Times as we sit eating our roasted rat haunches.

BUT, even after they “get back to work” (assuming they still have jobs and their place of business reopens at all, many, many won’t ever be back.) they won’t have any money to spend on anything but past-due bills and the bare necessities of life.
Personal Bankruptcies are going to soar to unheard of heights quickly, and foreclosures will also as people lose their homes and become homeless, and increasingly desperate.
Large Companies will take advantage of the situation to PERMANENTLY furlough workers and replace them with TEMPS that they don’t have to pay a living wage to, and will spend millions to break, and if possible DECERTIFY Unions.
The Vulture Capitalists are slavering at the prospect of buying up thousands of small/medium companies and strip-mining their assets, just like was done in the late 1980s, further increasing the size of the Unemployed, and all along, the States (who fund the Unemployment Funds, not the Feds) will see VASTLY reduced tax receipts, and since they are constitutionally required to run “balanced budgets” will see a huge slashing of State Funds to all kinds of projects and services, thus forcing THEM to lay off/furlough many millions MORE workers.
Trump is already floating the idea of CUTTING TAXES FOR THE WEALTHY AND CORPORATIONS AGAIN, and doing it via Executive Order under his Emergency Authority so he can bypass Congress.

This is going to be a HUGE DEPRESSION that will last at least 3 years. 33 Million people (almost 1/4 of the working population in the country) are OUT OF WORK. That won’t change any time soon.
Closed businesses don’t have any cash to pay employees and won’t be calling most of them back for many, MANY months (if at all.)
It’s 1932 all over again, and we have a twitter-raging narcissistic fool as President, not FDR.

They really do, but only as babies. The older ones can’t get up. Let me see if I can’t get a screenshot of the slide they have in the barn.

And I shared this one sometime last week:

Haha that’s awesome. It’s the only thing that could have cheered me up today, and who knows a thing like that beforehand? I saw a video once of a crow that was sliding on a snowy roof with a lid from a jar. Did it several times, obviously for fun.
