Bolton Says House Impeachment Inquiry Taught Trump ‘He Could Get Away With It’ | Talking Points Memo

Former National Security Adviser John Bolton told ABC News’ Martha Raddatz in an interview on Sunday about his forthcoming book that Election Day is the “last guardrail” protecting American democracy and that there’s no telling what will happen if Trump gets reelected in November.

Trump gets away with lots of things. Like killing lots and lots of Americans (see Josh’s post comparing EU vs. US numbers). Indeed, he has simply walked away from a once in a century pandemic and advised his surrogates to do so as well. Florida’s curve looks much like your average Cape Canaveral launch trajectory.

Your argument (read: “cover story”) for not testifying is unpersuasive, Mr. Bolton, and my suggestion would be to shut your fucking pie hole forever.

Bolton Says House Impeachment Inquiry Taught Trump ‘He Could Get Away With It’

I hate to admit it, but there is more than a grain of truth in this. Bolton, of course, didn’t help him learn anything else.

Well sure, Bolton was a fine teacher.

But it wasn’t a new piece of information for him. He’s been jerking the GOP around since the beginning. It’s what he does. Getting away with everything he can is the story of his life, and mistreating those he can dominate. He dominates the party, and there you are.

I’m looking forward to the day when he runs into the wall. I am an optimist and (have to) believe that that day will indeed come.

That one he may not get away with.

That day has come numerous times, and it will come again. I’m an optimist too, but there’s evidence for it as well.

Wonder if Trump keeps having shitty rallies if he’ll quit due to disappointment.

edit2: here a print as a pdf, conversion to jpeg by nitro, and a separate link to the actual tweet. The closest I can get to what I’d prefer it to look like and be! Guess I need to quit being so picky!

Bolton has “gotten away with” kissing up and kicking down his entire professional career which makes it’s pretty clear he still thinks of the Democrats as ‘down.’ May he, like his former boss, be proven wrong.

Susan Collins: I’m somewhat concerned that he didn’t learn his lesson.

Actually, Bolton’s refusal to testify (because that’s what he did despite his proclamation of being ready to) was an essential part of the lesson that Trump learned. Without Bolton’s refusal it would be harder, at least for a few more Republicans, to vote for acquittal and the lesson could have been different.

Yep, blame the Dems. You’re sounding a lot like your once fearless leader. And, please, never ever admit you’re wrong about anything.

Oh, yes, Bolton was definitely complicit in the “lesson”…

I’ve certainly never found a way. There’s a box on the Twitter side to include the media when you embed but it doesn’t work here.

“Republican Senator says he wishes John Bolton…”

Wish in one hand, shit in the other - see which one fills up faster.

That’s why i rather save my ‘ammo’ for the next story.

Impeachment required 67 votes for Trump to be binned. Though Bolton’s testimony wouldn’t have changed any minds, he would’ve been seen as a patriot.

Right now, he’s just an unhappy ex Trump voter, who didn’t get a pony.
