Charles Cooper, the lawyer representing both former National Security Adviser John Bolton and his deputy Charles Kupperman, said that a Monday ruling about former White House counsel Don McGahn has no bearing on his clients.
Bolton doesn’t want to testify, if he did, he would already had done so. It’s not like they are going to send the FBI or SS to intercept him on the way to Capitol Hill, or try to cover his mouth while he speaks. He has decided that is the best for him to keep mum, either because he doesn’t want any spoilers for his book or because he wants to stay in the good graces of the Wingnut Welfare Network.
I’ve always despised Bolton, but after watching the hearings I despise him slightly less.
I think all this maneuvering has something to do with his book tour. Funny how people in a position to know him better are not obliging his quest for publicity.
I despised him slightly less for a few minutes, until it became clear from Dr. Hill’s and Sondland’s testimony that Bolton knew what was going on with Ukraine and did nothing about it except try to cover his own ass, which he continues to do. He could easily testify if he wanted to and actually cared about the truth and his oath to the Constitution.
Hill is a patriot; Bolton is a self-serving, greedy jerk.
It doesn’t matter what Bolton thinks. If he doesn’t testify his book sales will suffer. I, for one of millions, won’t buy a book from anybody who wasn’t as the center of the impeachment. We don’t need to read mere kibitzers
Still, he didn’t join the conspiracy, and he called it out for the drug deal that it was, if only in private. I’m not calling him a patriot, I’m just expressing my surprise that he is not quite as bad as I would have expected.
I doubt it’s connected to the book tour. Matters of national security aren’t going to be in his book.
He’s a war criminal, and won’t voluntarily place himself under sworn testimony.
Bolton’s lawyer is right. The McGahn decision, despite the sweeping dicta, is not relevant to Bolton’s situation.
(which of course was a point made by Cooper when Schiff tried to demand that Kupperman abide by the McGahn decision when the Kupperman subpoena was withdrawn).
You know who wrote a book that is being released today? I bought it in presale - Glenn Simpson - the guy who hired Christopher Steele in the first place - the head of Fusion GPS. I read his testimony to both the House and the Senate and it was gripping. I can’t wait to read the book - he has the entire story of what Russia has on Trump and what the hell is going on. It’s called: Crime in Progress: Inside the Steele Dossier and the Fusion GPS Investigation of Donald Trump.
yeah, I saw him on rachel last night, and went to reserve it on line from my library – and they haven’t even ordered a copy of it. Unsurprising, given that I live in the most Republican county in Arizona. But still…
Count me as among those who don’t think Bolton’s testimony will add much value. In fact, the GOP is making a huge mistake in not sending the others to testify. They can’t put in any other alternative narratives. The case for impeachment is the one the Dems made last week and persuaded the public that Trump did in fact extort a foreign country for his personal benefit. Pelosi is right to move the impeachment articles over the course of December and January.
