I read somewhere yesterday that at least one of the officers involved has resigned. Which would indicate to me this was not handled well from the get-go.
I have been thru some seriously nasty incidents in my life that have caused decades of nightmares. I will do my best to avoid seeing this video as I did the Floyd tape.

Well lets do New School not Old School. Old scool would have us not do it because we’d be sure to get caught and pay the price. New School acknowledges that but adds the contemporary refinement “which is worse”…So, if taking the heat that an unaltered vid would bring is worse than wiping the thing and getting the lesser heat for that…well shit. Blurring of faces or objects is also a “redaction” and it doesn’t involve changing the time code. Audio editing to remove profanity or people’s names also doesn’t change the time code.

Sounds like they’re stalling over privacy-based ‘redactions’ while scouring frame by frame for material that backs up this defense. Did Brown’s gait suggest intoxication or “excited delirium”? Hurry those toxicology results! Maybe Brown had a burrito or cordless phone that “resembled a weapon”! Or maybe his car was momentarily on a vector towards an officer or pedestrian who justly “feared for my life!”
Any of which magically transforms murder into just another honorable day of “protect and serve” while staying safe out there.

Three resigned and seven taken off duty. Two of the resignations were close to retirement.

Uglier than shooting an unarmed man in the back for fleeing arrest? I mean, that’s really ugly (and illegal) in my book, but I rather doubt that the actual shooting is going to be much worse than that. My suspicion is that the run-up to the shooting maybe includes some obvious police misconduct or just blatant racism.

I think the issue is that the redactions were probably done days earlier, and the Brown family and their lawyer only learned about it this morning.

At least in the livestream the indications are that the edits are ongoing and that’s why the family hasn’t gotten the video yet

Right, wiping the original altogether is far less risky than altering the original and hoping the tampering won’t get noticed. At least with wiping you can claim it was an accident (not that anyone would believe you, of course).

I doubt coverup. The state bureau of investigation has already opened a case, and certainly the federal DOJ will be knocking.

This right here is a testament to how fucked up our system of policing is. Before we can show you the video of what agents of the government did, we must declare a state of emergency. Note that had there been no video, nobody ever would have known the truth. The truth which requires a state of emergency.
“If evidence shows that any of my deputies violated the law or policies, they will be held accountable,” Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy S. Wooten said in a recorded video statement Thursday.
Also, if “shot while driving away*” does not violate any policy or law, then policy and law need an update, STAT.
*Absent, say, ongoing reckless driving/imminent bodily harm/etc.

I agree but from my perspective of not being a Cop but a fairly street wise guy…if you’re arrogant enough and so self sure that you’d shoot a guy without just cause…( really dumb from that perspective ) you’re probably dumb enough to doctor a vid.
