Thomas’s emotional meltdown over a “high-tech lynching” in response to a calm, factual description by Anita Hill of his sexual-harassment of her was the perfect template for Rapey McBeerface to follow in response to Dr. Ford’s testimony.
I review NSF grant proposals, and scientists take conflicts of interest very seriously. I don’t even get to see proposals from people at my institution, eve if I don’t know them or work in that area. I personally won’t review proposals of friends or colleagues…even if I can remain objective it still might cast doubt if the decision is close. Every scientist I know does the same thing.
So, the idea that a Supreme Court justice can rule on cases related to their family is just nuts, there’s not another part of society where you can get away with that.
The more succinct way of putting this is:
Ginny Thomas was an active participant in the events of January 6. Can Justice Thomas ethically rule in a case involving his wife’s legal or financial interests?
Regular federal judges are supposed to recuse in matters in which their spouse is significantly involved. Simple, straightforward … because preserving objectivity should never be a matter that is subject to whim and doubt.
It really is absurd to argue vehemently against recusing … when the justice has his ass painfully parked in a thick cloud of questionability.
Shamelessly using a metaphor with richly-deserved horror on his way to becoming the most reactionary jurist in African American history.
I want publicity for Clarence Thomas. For The Inattentive, Thomas and his wife have flown under the radar.
Not any more.
I take Blunt’s response to mean that he knows that his wife thinks he is a lying POS, and probably votes for his opponent at every opportunity.
[quote="harry_r_sohl, post:27, topic:223649 Why didn’t he simply recuse when there was no chance his vote would matter - except, of course, as a giant “fuck you?”
Thomas has actually said outloud that he will never retire because it will take his whole life to “get even”.

Kinda tells more about this privileged man more than anything else.
It’s a sign of how far we’ve fallen that this is even a question or perceived of as defensible. Pelosi is right, of course, but given that CT was appointed, he should have stepped down long ago, when his wife’s activities became even more obviously insane–sorry, “outspoken.” The fact that she is considered acceptable in DC circles, along with his tenure on the SC, is absolutely an indictment of the woeful state of our government. And Thomas is of course the last remaining Bush v. Gore decider on the Court, the case that basically was the beginning of the end. He bears special responsibility for where we are–not that he’ll ever accept it. But damn, the Dems should just hammer this a la Pelosi, reminding everyone over and over how he is so instrumental in the regressive and anti-democratic trends that led to Trump (and may yet lead to more of the same or worse).
The very thought that this inadequate Justice/man was seated to replace Thurgood Marshall is enough to make one puke.
That’s why the Charlatan bellowed the “High Tech Lynching” yell…done in the name of the Lion he replaced.

“You don’t know what’s in my heart…”
Roy “Really, Really Needs To Fire Up A” Blunt.
The argly-bargly word salad, after George Snuffleupagus asked him why he won’t just vote for Jackson if he thinks her nomination is good for America, is Grade-A, Gold-plated, Chocolate-dipped Sarah Palin Batshittery.
Well said.
Well done. People forget what a cold-blooded primadonna W was.
Blunt’s wife is the chief lobbyist for Kraft Foods. Kraft Foods is a giant sponsor of ABC. Of course the reporter won’t ask a follow up question. The corruption runs that deep. If any reporter ever did his or her career would be over.
Thomas has actually said outloud that he will never retire because it will take his whole life to “get even” .
I did not know this, but it certainly proves Speaker Pelosi correct. A man motivated primarily by thoughts of vengeance simply does not possess the temperament necessary for the bench. Really on any level, let alone SCOTUS.
Ginni Thomas has been a laughingstock in traditional GQP circles for at least 20 years.
She is de trop at most major social gatherings.
Not anymore. She’s got a new part-time position as of last September.
Succeeding Ms. Blunt as vice president of global head of government affairs is Bill Behrens, who used to work at GE.
