Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg kicked off his second presidential primary debate appearance by alleging that Russia supported Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) because they wanted President Donald Trump to be re-elected.
Sanders had received a classified briefing that Russia was attempting to help his campaign ā but that it was unclear what form the assistance was taking, nor to what end.
Sheesh. This is not that tricky.
A. Russia is āprobablyā gearing up armies of trolls to wage a war of fear mongering on the āsocialismā label plastered over Sanders, hoping to turn back any conservatives wavering on supporting Trump. While the socialist label will be plastered over any Dem nominee, Bernie seems draw the most anti-reaction on that topic from Repubs (my personal observation). It just doesnāt matter, if not Bernie theyād be going after Warren or whomever.
B. Russia wants to sow discord in the Dem party. This faux support of Bernie is like pouring gasoline onto the various avid supporters. For or against. Witnessing saome of the discussion Iāve seen in threads here these days, the Russian trolls are giggling in glee at their success.
C. The daily onslaught of fake statements and twisting lies and misdirection is ramping up at key junctures like now, this is the shock and awe of the troll-verse. The goal, make people give up and stop paying attention.
This is war. Russia is astutely applying pressure at key points resulting in us tearing apart our country from within.
And all of this socialism and Russia bullshit? It is simple, yeah Russia is doing this. So fucking what about the real motives of a known enemy trying to destroy us. Talk about the candidates and what they can do and ignore these trolls.
I hope someone can get music with Sanders conducting the band. I am watching with the sound muted, and it is really a show, better then hearing them yell at each other. I am taping it so I can watch when I stop laughing. Their hands are all over the place with Sanders face getting red and you can see him yelling.
I love the way that some dishonest people are trying to equate Russiaās helping the Sanders campaign with Sanders approving of and welcoming if not cooperating with it, for which there is obviously no evidence. Once I hear something like that from someone, theyāve forever lost me.
I am reassured of my decision to have not voted for Bloomberg for mayor, the one time I was in a position to do so (I moved out of NYC shortly after he took office, and didnāt return until the end of his third term). IIRC I voted for Marc Green, another progressive āassholeā in the Sanders mode.
Is it possible for everyone to lose the debate? The moderators were the biggest losers, by far, but Iām not sure anyone actually did themselves any good in this debate.
People need a sense of proportion, rather than the typical mentality of a fan rooting in the Ohio State-Michigan game (āOur guy is as pure as the driven snow. Your guy is a scumbag.ā) Humans are more complicated that that, with a mixture of motives. So with Sanders.
I will say that Sanders is naive, if not silly, to be proposing a revamped NATO with Russia as a member. You cannot invite a hostile power into an alliance until it ceases to be hostile, which Russia has demonstrated no propensity to be:
That said, it is not clear why Russia wants Sanders to be the nominee: are they following the American conventional wisdom that Sanders will be a weaker candidate in the general election, thereby electing Trump, who is truly Putinās bitch? We donāt know, because the details are sketchy.
Itās obvious, though, that thereās no way Sanders could be as supine as Trump towards Russia ā Trump acts in every instance as if heās doing Moscowās bidding.
Bloombergās comment was just a cheap shot from a guy whose tongue slipped (and whose plutocratic ego was on display) when he said he bought the 2018 Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives.
Indeed he did buy the Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives. Are you glad he did, or not? If it isnāt clear to Americans by now that money controls our elections, and that it is a cynical process, then go back in time to our Founding Fathersā elections as they set up our government and note just how representative they were of the nation in the first place. I believe that Bloomberg is going to buy this Presidential election, even though he may not be the chosen candidate. Bloomberg will back the winner of the Democratic primary with billions, and I for one will be relieved that Trump is not the only candidate with a billion to get Re-elected.
Perhaps they figure itās a win-win. OTOH they probably think heās most likely to lose to Trump, but OTOH if he does win, they probably think heād be such a terrible and divisive president that heād sow further chaos and division in the US, making it easier to destroy us as a power.
I tuned in for a minute or so and saw that Norah OāDonnell did her usual āLetās make them uncomfortableā mean girl thing. I canāt stand journalists who think that being abrasive and contentious is the same thing as good journalism.
He was calling names and cussing and I just wanted to know why he would state something about a candidate without any policy or issues that he disagrees with. That is my issue, that is what Russia wants to do, so I just wanted his evidence that Bloomberg is āā¦a despicable scum-bucket McCarthyite piece of shit Mike Bloomberg is. Canāt wait to see his half-pint ass drop out.ā I just wanted to know why he thought that about Bloomberg (policies that he disagrees with) if he canāt then he might as well be a Russian troll.
They all yell, but Sanders face get so red when he yells and waves his arms like he is directing a band. Just imagine him at the State of the Union. Also imagine Mayor Pete at his Inauguration ball. Him and his husband dancing together with photos going around the world. If you thought Obama had a backlash increasing white nationalist, think what that picture with start, LGBT harassment or worse.
It was, of course, inevitable. Us Dems always do this. Itās a big part of why the other side often wins. A party of absolutists within, pussycats without. Weāre good at fighting each other, not so much the GOP.
Bloombergās disgusting embrace of McCarthyism is what makes me mad. Heās trying to use something thatās completely out of Bernieās control - who Putin āsupportsā, as a weapon against Bernie and itās pretty sickening. But I think people are tired of the red-baiting BS. Weāll see if people fall for this nonsense yet again, I guess.
