Bloomberg Controversies Resurface | Talking Points Memo

Welcome to prime time, Michael Bloomberg.

The former New York City mayor qualifying to appear on the 2020 Democratic primary debate stage Wednesday night comes as a number of past controversies come home to roost for the billionaire media mogul.

If the debate moderators ask MB about those,I wonder what they’ll ask Bern about his “controversies”?

The idea that a marginally less racist, sexist, obscenely rich white man is the answer to Trump is disgusting. I want to stop him now; I don’t want to have to vote for the literal lesser of two evils in November.

Asking him about those would be rigging the debate!

Bernie was in Tacoma yesterday and a local reporter asked about some of his less than savory supporters. After a blah blah about disapproving of harassment, he claimed that there is no proof his supporters are behind the on-line harassment. I suspect he won’t fully answer when asked about his support of the Soviet Union, Venezuela, and Castro.

Bloomberg will be amply prepared to discuss these controversies. Whether he’ll say things that are satisfactory remains to be seen. The prospect of Trump facing a truly wealthy person is poetic justice, both to Trump and SCOTUS, who said in Citizens United that money isn’t a problem.

He doesn’t take accountability for his supporters or surrogates actions.

“Ninety-five percent of murders white-collar crimes fit one MO. You can just take the description, Xerox it, and pass it out to all the cops. They are male, minorities pink, 16–25 50-75. That’s true in New York. That’s true in virtually every city. And that’s where the REAL crime is.”

So true.

He cannot afford to lose them.

Welcome to American politics.

He goes away if he doesn’t get the support he’s banking on with Super Tuesday. This debate will give those voters plenty of time to kick him to the curb, if that’s the answer.

Every Dem that rises, out comes the history, the concerns then it’s the next one. I don’t know about anyone else, but at this particular time I can’t imagine which candidate all Dems would vote for so that we don’t get trounced by the criminal in chief.
This long primary season has done us no favors.

Well, in all honesty, who does take accountability for supporters’ or surrogates’ actions?

The buck stops at the top. And one question: did Sanders truly support Hilary Clinton, and, if not, does that make him lose votes now?

The debate will be lit and am glad to see the Nevada Independent will be represented. Looking forward to Jon Ralston asking a few questions.

Which one?

My, admittedly hot take: those questions and stories, complete with video, about Bernie’s controversies, from both the press and the Trump campaign, will show up in premium lots when he’s the nominee and will do the most damage to him and the Democratic party.

The real question is whether these hit pieces are coming courtesy of the purity-police from the dems or republican oppo trying to sink him before he makes headway.

Right now, it’s the ‘purity police’.

I’m still hoping for a brokered convention that goes past the third vote and a totally different candidate is chosen. Val Demings would be cool.
