Disgraced ex-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) — who was kicked out of office in 2009 before being convicted and sentenced to prison for more than a decade over corruption charges — is filing a federal lawsuit claiming his removal and the subsequent ban on him running for office was unconstitutional.
As an Illinois voter, all I can say is “it ain’t gonna happen, Rod”. You may get the ban overturned, but you’ll NEVER get elected in Illinois for anything.
“I do feel like it’s a violation of not only my right, but the right of the people to elect who they want, to elect, to choose whoever they want to choose. Vote for, vote against whoever they want to vote for or against,”…
Um, should we also be able to vote for children? The deceased? Foreigners? Animals?
Dude. You tried to sell a seat in the United States Senate just like they try to sell you hot dogs and flip-flops on the boardwalk at the beach. The only reason you’re out walking around is because somehow we elected a president who identified with your profound criminality and incredible huge mouth. Which you should shut NOW.
Pretty sure that impeachment is a 100% unreviewable political decision conferred solely to the legislative branch pursuant to the state constitution. This is going nowhere.
ETA: I should also add that Blagojevich’s disqualification from holding statewide office does not prevent anyone from voting for him.
What’s the difference of selling a Senate seat for hard cash versus selling it for some other favor? Not like most appointed seats could have plenty of question-marks around how this or that person ended up selected.
At least the cash approach is honest and straight-forward.
Looking out for all those citizens who feel that the guy convicted of corruption by boldly selling a Senate seat is just their guy for governor or senator or dog catcher.
