Rutherford County is not small, and it is only partially rural.
It has a major university in Murfreesboro, a Nissan plant, and a thriving economy.
Davenport is just a horrible person and a worse judge.
She should be fired and disbarred.

Ah, Murfreesboro. When I lived in Nashville, going to school, I lived in a duplex across the street from another in which a Black medical student lived. Next door to his duplex lived a Nashville police officer who burned a cross on the medical student’s lawn. This was in 1968 0r 69. At the time I was part of a martial arts team traveling around the State performing demonstrations. When we went to Murfreesboro one evening on that mission we were met with the usual crowd of younger kids showing interest, one of them a Black youngster, maybe 12 years old. A police officer shoved him away, apologizing to us for the kid’s interest. We told the cop the youngster was welcome, which seemed to provoke consternation. When we began our family, we moved out of Tennessee; we refused to bing our kids up in that toxic, hellish, racist environment.

The motivation is worse than it being a “profit center”. That’s just icing on the cake. It’s clothed in religion and ‘morality’, but the targeting of the most vulnerable goes way beyond demanding compliance and what they insist is respect. Davenport and her minions exhibit an almost sexual need to humiliate children and their families.

With regard to racism, I agree. More broadly, I’d contend the conservative movement is about the administration of servitude. Also known as slavery.
Blacks may get paid less than whites, but that store down the street hires both for cashiers, and neither gets paid very much.

That goes for every single white person, Karen or otherwise, in this country. We have no understanding or perspective of what it means to be black in America. No cultural perspective at all. And yet we write the laws and make shit up for everybody like we know what’s best. It’s so fucking embarrassing! Humility does not compensate.

No argument although once out of an urban center the culture changes pretty damned fast. I lived there for a year before moving to Kentucky where I lived the next eight and can attest that small/rural is relative; e.g., KY has more counties than any other state but one w/ TN not too far behind and you can pretty much guess which county you are in by the family names of higher office holders, bankers, and major property owners.
No argument on Davenport either but would note that the county commissioners complained when she didn’t keep the jail revenue flowing.

At my school police officers are plentiful. Surveillance cameras in every hallway and every room WITH SOUND! Teachers now have zero privacy in dealing with anything. Students are watched everywhere except the bathrooms and it’s getting worse.

I remember a Good Wife episode based on this case. They thought they had a clear pattern of racial bias, but when that didn’t pan out they discovered the bribery scheme.

They created an elected office for her in 2008. Disbarred is still on the table but apparently it wouldn’t affect her qualifications for the job.
