A Food and Drug Administration panel unanimously voted Wednesday to recommend that a birth control pill become available without a prescription.
Good news.
Should have happened a long time ago.
Let’s see what Judge Kaczmaryk has to say about this.
Good luck finding the live stream.
Yes, I’m sure he would choose to outlaw it completely since viability is not a concern of the “life begins at conception” crowd. As such, the fact that the fertilized egg could not implant and begin to grow is “murder” to them.
Yay, action! Seriously, this seems like an important move.
And god is the ultimate murderer, because three quarters of all fertilized eggs are shed naturally.
Let’s see all those so-called healthcare professionals at pharmacies be forced to retire because they won’t sell OTC BC.
No No…that is “God’s Will,” so not murder. Besides, which, you can’t logic with them.
If they are that upset about this part of the job then they are in the wrong line of work. I say fire any pharmacist that refuses to fill an entire category of meds.
Wait until God’s right hand Alito gets ahold of this. The Bishops will be proud.
It’s only a matter of when the Christian theocracy movement goes after birth control…they aren’t really interested in life, they want to make sure women are under control and unable to have the freedom to make their own choices, whether that’s about having a child or having sex whenever they want. I guarantee that they have plans, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a lawsuit is filed over this by the end of the year, probably disguised as an attempt to protect children from accessing it or some other nonsense.
Honestly, I don’t understand why women in the US put up with this crap, especially since the majority of them are not believers in this toxic version of Christianity. If they just stood up and said no and voted against every politician trying to force them into red robes the nation would be in a far healthier place.
The trouble is that this move will be labelled as political, regardless of any facts. Better they should make it clear the medicine can be obtained using telemedicine, or other approaches, for now. I don’t see an upside to providing an extra degree of motivation the anti-abortion crowd. Or maybe there is…having them foam at the mouth and getting even more radical might help bring the issue to a head, which they are bound to lose.
Let’s hope he continues to be stupid enough to keep making this a salient issue for Democratic voters through the 2024 election.
It would be helpful for men to vote that way also.
Fifty years is clearly not long enough to prove it is safe and effective.
Telemedicine and delivery to your home is not a good option for many teens. Also difficult for women in abusive situations.
I don’t know how much more we can do to avoid riling up the radical right.
Not a fan of rightist religious freedom to tell me what their religion makes them tells me to do.
True, and at least some do obviously. Women could control the nation with their vote, and this is a case where voting for these vile politicians (almost all men) could turn the tide against it. Some women obviously want to go along with this, so they vote for it, and it’s sometimes hard to understand.
Really, all of us should be working to get this crap out of our politics, but that’s just not happening right now for whatever reason.
I agree. And you can bet that red state legislators are going to set up parental notification requirements for teens who want to purchase the OTC version. Hopefully these actions will fail.
