Attorney General Bill Barr defended the Justice Department’s bombshell move to drop its case against Michael Flynn Thursday, claiming to CBS News that “the crime cannot be established here.”
So, typically, Barr’s massively lying and the lie rests on the preposterous idea his lawyers couldn’t convict a man who admitted guilt. Orwell would be gobsmacked for having grossly underplayed the idea of doublethink as just one aspect of a dystopian government. Our current real life version is built on either rationalizations like that or just pure, outright, outrages and bald-faced lies.
This is part of Trump’s contingency plan (transition plan) if he leaves the WH in 2020 or Jan 2021. Flynn is one of the loose ends to take care of. Recall that Trump announced a withdrawal from Syria, fired his defense secretary and launched a government shutdown after Judge Sullivan tore Flynn a new one in an open court proceeding back in Dec. 2018.
Trump is exposed for multiple counts of obstruction of justice and violation of the federal election campaign act relating to Flynn tracks. Taking care of him prevents him from being a witness against Trump in 2021 and beyond on these matters. In addition, a pardon would be used as evidence of an obstructive act. It was part and parcel of the cover up and quid pro quo between him and Flynn. That’s why he didn’t want to do it and had Barr cook up a rationale to get it done for him.
Orwell’s image of fascism (paraphrased) as “a heavy boot, stamping on someone’s naked face, over and over for eternity.” This is Barr saying “we are in command and we will do anything to hold power.” Naked dictatorship.
