Biggest Takeaways From Second Night Of CNN’s Democratic Debates

The second half of the Democratic candidates, relatively more uniform in policy than their night one counterparts, took the stage Wednesday to tussle on everything from criminal justice reform to deportations.

Biden took fire on immigration, criminal justice

He also returned fire to Booker, Harris and Castro. Was his defense perfect? No, but defense is more so adaptive and when Booker had to explain his previous hires, that encounter was a draw.

These group of D prez candidates should highlight ALL of the ineptitude, incompetence, and idiotic decision of Trump administration and NOT go after each other thus giving the Rs materials to attack the D primary winner!

I’ve actually found this debate to be depressing so far. I enjoyed last night’s debate much more. I hope September’s debate will be more like that.

Last night I didn’t think the candidates had enough time to answer but TONIGHT I think the candidates are wasting their time with petty insults. Gillibrand and Harris are screaming at Biden and ‘demanding’ a purity test when NEITHER one of those ladies would be where they are without people like Biden…but BY GOD they are pissed off he didn’t do MORE MORE MORE. Stop.

Yep.TPM annoys me as much now as does Lester Holt. Didnt think a news org could piss me off more than Lester Holt, but TPM has surprised me recently.

About the only takeaway from these first two debates is that there are only a small number of serious candidates, plus a couple of very promising future stars, a few nice but not weighty enough pols, a couple of “who the f is that” candidates, and one very angry, cranky old crackpot yelling at clouds.

Time to clear the chaff.

Izzat who Tapper was talking to?

tmw I find out that Joe Biden isn’t the only candidate who is apprehensive about impeachment.

What’s wrong with Lester?

I dunno. I think Booker had a pretty good night. Yang’s night wasn’t bad, either, especially that closing statement.

True story — I once rode in an elevator with James Spader. We got on the same elevator in the lobby of a hotel. He got on first and asked what floor I wanted. I told him, and with a cool smile and a cooler nod of the head, he pressed the button. We rode in silence, and the elevator stops, the doors open, and I realize that I told him the wrong floor, but one does not ask James Spader to press elevator buttons twice, and if James Spader sends you to a certain floor, that is the floor where you get off the elevator.

I like Booker, but he had a so-so night and it’ll probably reflect in the next round of polling.

Yang maybe had a chance in a post Clinton era, but this is the Trump era and we’re looking at guys like him and Steyer, as if they’re the problem.

Did I miss it, or was there zero discussion of foreign policy either last night or tonight? Looking at you, CNN moderators.
