Always loved this story about James Garfield:
“James Garfield became proficient in Greek and Latin while attending college. Before college he worked on the docks of Lake Erie where he was able to pick up the German language. Later, during his political life in Ohio, he was able to speak to his German constituents in their native tongue. As a parlor trick he would entertain his grandchildren or others by writing Greek with his right hand, writing Latin with his left hand, and speaking phrases in German at the same time.”

Other biographers would relay he’d place a book in English on a table and a pad of paper to either side, then translate a page into Latin and Greek, writing the translations simultaneously with both hands.

Christie finally killed the whole thing. Sadly for its faults one being ended under Macy’s it would have been a great redundancy for when the Gateway is rehabilitated.

But it’s the Spanish-speaking immigrants who are “refusing” to assimilate and thereby posing an existential threat to the good old U. S. of A. … riiiight.
(It was common to have German-language schools in several Midwestern states pretty much up until our entry in WW 1, when speaking German suddenly became much less popular.)

Hopefully, one of the first things he does is roll back Trump’s newest Airline Rule (written by…airline lobby) to make it harder for consumers to fight airlines over “unfair and deceptive practices.”
