Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is scheduled to visit Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Thursday following the shooting of Jacob Blake and an outbreak of protests that have ensued in recent days.
Not certain why TPM repeated McEnany’s talking points without mentioning that the Mayor of Kenosha, the Lt. Gov. and the Gov. had asked Trump to stay away. Biden would have been heavily criticised for a spur of the moment trip in competition with Trump.
Trump has already shown how not to do it. Maybe someone who balances the various factors can display what an actual leader should look like. Not a sure thing, of course. It’s a minefield. He needs to split his time and attention equally between the two (main) factions. He must display actual interest in what everyone has to say. He doesn’t have to schmaltz it up. The big moment, if there is one, is going to be his clear condemnation of Rittenhouse without wounding the police further. A tightrope. But also an opportunity that Trump has served up.
Biden together with his wife, Jill Biden, is expected to hold a community meeting “to bring together Americans to heal and address the challenges we face,”
In contrast, Trump had a photo-op with a stand-in instead!
Keep going Trumpy, hopefully WI will go for Biden!
I don’t see how saying vigilante killing – lynching, if you will – and that it has to be held accountable to the law would offend the police.
Maybe the vigilantes, but they’ll never vote for Biden anyhow.
This is a really gutsy thing to do. Community meetings can be very unpredictable with crazy people flailing around and weird questions. Not to mention the danger of physical violence upon Joe.
The Kenosha police have clearly chosen the side of armed protesters (whom they let walk Scott free after murder, do not arrest for curfew violations, and do not stop to check permits) over unarmed protesters. If Biden plans on supporting them, instead of wounding those obvious fascists, it’s not going to turn out well for the Biden-Harris team.
Shouldn’t take too much imagination to see that said the wrong way, it could easily come across as anti-police. It’s the times we live in. Should be simple but it ain’t.
This will be a test of Biden’s ability to walk through a minefield. My money says he can/will do just fine. I bet he listens hard, speaks only when spoken to, and exudes as much compassion as a socially-distanced masked man can.
The Debate moderator list is out. Chris Wallace will moderate the first Trump-Biden debate. Susan Page will moderate the VP debate. Steve Scully will moderate the second presidential debate. Kristen Welker will moderate the final one.
I’m glad they’re using one moderator per debate. It will clean things up and speed things along.
This all assumes, of course, that Trump will do more than one of the debates.
Go in there, Joe, and show 'em how a real President does it. Just be ready at a moments notice if you see people with Campbell’s soup cans in their hands…
