President Joe Biden will meet with Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) about their opposition to the price tag of the reconciliation package — $3.5 trillion over 10 years — according to multiple news outlets.
You can start, Mr. President, by showing them any classified information regarding the ongoing threat of climate change. Maybe if they understand how much their constituents are about to suffer, they will start taking their jobs more seriously!

At this point, the real wonder is that more Dems aren’t grandstanding, in order to get the big headlines. Still, I’d list Manchin & Sinema as honorary Deplorables.

This is all a show. I’m really not worried about this bill right now. Political theater is what it is and, quite frankly, this play is pretty dull.
BRING IT, Mr. President! This is what all the kabuki has always been about; Manchin and Sinema want to see their names in the media and they want to make a deal. Senator Manchin thinks there is no urgency? He has not been watching the weather reports this summer.
Parse this more carefully. He’s giving them the face time they want and crave, but he’s also putting them on notice as the literal “faces” of a bill being rubbled or canceled.
They’re going to fold. First Manchin–because he lives in the reality-based world–and then Sinema, when she belatedly realizes she’s out there twisting in the wind.
Also parse the bit about him meeting each separately. This ain’t a kumbaya for the cameras, it’s a come-to-Jesus discussion with brass knuckles.
The only topic of conversation should be whether Sens. Manchin & Sinema would prefer that they be given a blank check or a horse’s head…

Riga framing this as progressive vs moderate is not correct. It’s progressives and moderates vs conservative Dems.

Joe may be an empathetic guy and that good buuut I would not want to cross him. I sense a serious inner toughness in the guy. I’d say if Joe is willing to put up with the blow back from Afghanistan then Sinema and Manchin are gonna have their heads handed to them on a plate.
Staff for Manchin and Sinema have been tasked with finding diplomatic phrasing meaning “Get bent” in anticipation of the meeting.
