Yeah, but at the same time, will it make a difference? Without some significant mandates, I think all Joe might be doing here is admonishing some toddlers not to touch the hot stove, knowing full well that as soon as he turns away, they’ll touch the hot stove.
Good public health policy for the COVID has been in short supply and the lies, myths and nonsense has been in over-supply. I’m not sure how he turns this around. I’m still hearing far too much noise on herd immunity by infecting all of the general population as being sound policy and open everything up now so that we can get on with it. It’s BS.

Because, honestly, would anyone have listened? Seriously. That’s the issue here. We’re so inured to the disaster of this virus in human terms that way too many people no longer care. I see it all the time.
By speaking the truth, for starters.
Followed by coordinated planning and rollout of the vaccines, and support for the stressed healthcare system.
Maybe some direct conversations with certain Trump enablers, like DiSantis and Abbott.
And not giving up or worrying about what the 71mil think, but waking up each morning ready to work.
The more that President Biden testifies to and documents the abject failure of Fat Nixon and his hoax believing base to responsibly deal with the pandemic, the better.
There’ve been plenty of people speaking the truth for months now. The media has chosen to focus on those perpetrating the myths and giving sloppy seconds of attention to the realities.
I said earlier this week: day one, Biden sets up a Zoom meeting with all the parties involved - the pharmas and the distribution - , finds out what’s needed, goes to Congress (because it’s mostly funding at this point, we have everything else) and hope that Mitch won’t put the brakes on a CLEAN BILL COMING FROM THE HOUSE - meaning, absolutely nothing else in it but funding for the vaccine distribution - and then gets on with it.
What I’m seeing now is favorability for taking the vaccine if offered is increasing, but we are probably another six months from 50% of the population being vaccinated. DeSantis and Abbott aren’t going away and there’s nothing in it for them to cooperate.
I saw in another article where it’s a free-for-all in Florida, as DeSantis has told the population that anyone that wants the vaccine can have it now. Places are being overrun. So maybe the Florida man isn’t as stupid as we think he is.
How did Florida get enough of the vaccine to offer everyone a shot? In Az we don’t even have enough to get the first shot to all our hospital staff.

Two-part answer: (a) they have a Repub governor who Donald wasn’t trying to punish (unlike states that went for him); (b) DeSantis is lying.
Both are true.
It’s worse than BS. Research on evolutionary biology demonstrates that all that strategy does is breed a more virulent virus (the virus doesn’t need to pull its punches to give itself a chance to spread). This may be the explanation for the 1918 flu, when infected soldiers were forced to stay together, and waddya know, one of the countries with the worst record of Covid infections has developed a much more serious variant.

Well, you’ve got to start somewhere. Will it work? Who knows?! But he’s got to try and keep trying for it’s a matter of life and death. We don’t know what the outcome will be, but we do know that doing worse than nothing certainly hasn’t worked. So, let’s give him the space to try doing something like modeling appropriate behavior, talking to us like adults, and preparing us for the worst.
The agency has forecasted 16,400 to 27,600 new deaths likely to be reported by mid-January, amid increased indoor gatherings and an uptick in holiday air travel that reached its highest levels on Sunday since the early days of the pandemic in March.
I have a feeling that 27,600 number is on the low side. Too many people had holiday parties, attended get togethers, etc. even if they didn’t travel far. Quite a few people think that because they’ve gotten it already that they can do whatever they want now because they don’t understand that they can still transmit the virus. Some of those same people don’t realize they can get it twice and that it might be much worse the second time.
I don’t believe they have enough for everyone right now. DeSantis reprioritized. Instead of prioritizing healthcare workers, he’s doing a “first come, first serve” to folks over 65. Geezers are waiting overnight in lawn chairs at vaccination centers. He’s either buying geezer votes or he simply has no coherent distribution plan. There’s no national coordination, State governors can do what they want, apparently.
Before Biden takes office, all he can do is warn and ask people to be responsible. Once he is in office he can do much more. He can shut down the airports if that is what is needed.
