Biden Sticks To Plan To Keep Chris Wray As FBI Director | Talking Points Memo

President Biden has no plans to fire FBI Director Christopher Wray, according to CNN and NBC on Thursday. The President indicated during his transition that he would keep Wray in his position, but with the caveat that then-President Trump didn’t get around to firing Wray first.

I hope that this works out.

I’ve long been wary that something is awry with Wray.

Another Comey. Dems? Learn? sigh…

@dannydorko My sentiments, also. This is mostly a tactical move, in my opinion, and greatly influenced by the person who is the new Attorney General.

Agree 100%. Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the FBI Director report to the Deputy Attorney General? Who of course reports to the Attorney General.

If I was president I would call Wray next January for an annual review…

a) How many Trump family members have been charged?
b) Is Kushner in jail for Treason?
c) How many 1/6 rioters are in jail?
d) How many Right Wing Militias have been dismantled?
e) Do the Proud Boys still exist?
f) How many radio talking heads and foxnews personalities have been investigated for incitement?

Wrong answers on any of those questions and he is out.

If so when he speaks people listen.

To be fair, Wray hasn’t gone along with any of Trump’s attempts to sway or force investigations, and he seems like the normal kind of bureaucrat that would survive into another administration. He was appointed early n Trump’s administration, while adults were still there to influence Trump’s choices. And, he’s definitely no Kash Patel…he’s pushing the FBI to go after Trump supporters that invaded the Capitol and shut down right wing terrorism. And, the rest of the DoJ leadership is going to be Biden appointees, so they can make sure Wray doesn’t step out of line.

Biden is talking about unity, and this is one way that he can show he means it. He should still keep an eye on Wray and make sure he’s ding his duty and not giving conservatives any more leniency than liberals. Until there’s a reason though, Wray is probably one of the more reasonable and visible Trump appointees that could be left in place to make people think he’s serious about tying the nation back together.

This is a bad move. Wray did nothing to prevent 1/6. He should do the decent thing and tender his resignation. Dems have not had good luck with GOP FBI directors. It’s time we appointed one of our own.

I don’t think we know this.

It’s a good idea to keep the current leadership in place to execute the insurrection man hunt. Wray is on record acknowledging white supremacy as a major threat so, I don’t think he’s going to do anything cute for now. In the long run, an independent and competent AG will keep him in line. And if that doesn’t work, Biden can fire him then. I’m more concerned about the embedded party-over-country field agents. They need to be rooted out and fired. NY Field Office, AG Garland would like to have a word with you.

From what we’ve seen on the outside, I would say there are many more that need to be fired first.

I think Wray did try to buck Who? …and since he is under the new AG, he could be left in…and WATCHED LIKE A HAWK.

Didn’t Obama appoint Comey? I have nothing good to say about him.

This is certainly good news.

Mistake. Within 1 year Wray will bite Biden in the ass just like EVERY GOP’er Obama gave a position did to him.

Yeah, we kinda do.

You mean there might be some issues with the guy who was appointed to not investigate the Russia thing after his predecessor was fired for continuing to investigate the Russia thing?

I’m with you on that. If/when it becomes clear that Wray shot down investigations of Trump Family criming, that will be good cause to fire him.

It’s a tough call…and those posters with LEO chops are welcome to weigh in (and on this site, that’s gonna happen).

One thing that was evident in the Trump Era…Trump thought about his _______________

Still, Wray did not advance any of the necessary investigations of Trump and his businesses, nor do much to stem the corruption inherent in Trumpworld and the R party at large.

How about a DEMOCRAT as FBI director? When was the last time that true? At this point I’d be OK with an independent non-political FBI director. Leave a Republican in that role and he’ll always give a Republican the benefit of the doubt.
