I’ll never forget John McCain’s “Complete the dang fence” ad in 2010. That ad still sticks in my craw and was such red meat to future Trumpers.

Endorsements from Republicans are not particularly helpful to Democrats. If you know any Trump supporters who have been swayed by this please let me know. And if it is supposed to move the undecided (wherever he may be), let me know that also. It’s nice, but it ain’t moving anyone’s needle.

I’m aware of two staunch “always R” voters (both widowed women above 65) who are going to vote for Biden. Take it for what it’s worth.

True enough. I could give a rat’s ass what the ultimate Karen thinks, but I’ll take Trump’s comments making it back into the news cycle to haunt him any day.

I know quite a few of those - but I don’t think the ones I know got there because of other Republicans endorsing him. They got there because they have the ability to actually see what an asshole he is.

What next, Mittens Romney? He hates Fat Nixon, too.

Oh, wait…

He likes getting re-elected more than he hates Trump.

I think I liked the “We’re all Georgians now” moment better. Had too many people saying wait a minute, I’m from (name a state).

There are a lot of military people, active and retired, who live in AZ, so this will only help Biden (and Kelly) win in the state, especially since it brings up Trump’s anti-military statements. It will also make a dent in places where support for Trump among vets is wavering, which could include GA, NC, and FL. It’s also a reminder that McCain stood against Trump, and actually had an effect, which may convince random independents to stand against him as well (especially women who are concerned about how things are going especially after RBG’s death).

Every single thing that helps Biden, no matter how minor, is important at this point…we have no idea which endorsement may have an effect, but you can be sure that higher up Republicans supporting Biden will affect someone out there. If the last election taught us anything, it’s that we need every single vote we can get this time around, especially since we expect a lot more shenanigans this time.

Folks need to look beyond the “Does this meaningfully help Biden” and “Meh I never liked the McCains” aspect of this to what this signals. The GOP, as hard conservative and reactionary as it’s been since the late 70’s, isn’t even that party anymore, the party of Reagan, Bush I or even Bush II.

Today’s GOP is effectively the party of morons, racists, misogynists, nativists, lunatics, fanatics, zealots, fascists, radical libertarians and greedy assholes, but WITHOUT being balanced out by more moderate and conventionally conservative types. The latter still exist, but they have little voice within the party, and many are leaving it, if not to become Dems, then to become indies and often vote Dem.

The GOP leadership knows this, and is ok with it, so long as it and not the loonies, idiots and trash are in control and able to manipulate and harness this human flotsam and jetsam. And even with all that, it remains a minority party demographically, that can only stay in power via cheating, lying, criminality, and certain peculiarities of our political system that favor it, like the senate and electoral college.

If we can’t do something with this to gain and keep power, we don’t deserve to be in power. Instead of taking potshots or complaining about how unfair things are, why don’t we figure out how to game all this to our favor, and change these peculiarities to be fairer, and then do so?
