President-elect Joe Biden will nominate former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) to lead the Energy Department, the agency that would be instrumental in fulfilling Biden’s commitment to move the country away from fossil fuels.
This is a good pick, and it will help with getting the auto industry onboard with electrification…they will have a person that understands them, but who also sees the future coming. The auto industry sees the world going electric, they will too…and this might just help to build a wedge against the fossil fuel industry.
Granholm seems prime to do something else after this, so the exposure makes sense for her.
Excellent choice. I have always like Ms Granholm since she grew in the national prominence as Governor of Michigan. At one point, I thought she would make a superb presidential candidate, . . . until I learned that she was born in Canada. In any case, she is clear-headed, responsibly progressive, and a highly skilled public servant.
With the exception of Vilsack every pick by Joe has my 100% support. He’s bringing Gina McCarthy back, not as EPA director, but Director (from the WH) on Domestic environmental concerns.
yes indeed. good pick
She got balls to put her foot right where it belongs when needed.
She has no fear and will accomplish good things for the country.
This day just keeps getting better. First Pete and now this.
I know you all agree how good it is to open TPM and see some good news for a change.
I am not going to miss the orange grifter and his slime one little tiny bit.
I was hoping Governor Jay Inslee would be tapped. Not just for his demonstrated commitment to reducing carbon emissions, but his deep knowledge of nuclear waste issues. Granholm is a capable administrator and loyal Democrat, but she won’t push Biden out of his comfort zone on climate policy. Oh well, there’s still the EPA…
I agree. But I don’t think this will be nearly as hard a pull as the republicans would like you to believe. The Japanese and Euro manufacturers will do it even if we don’t, and the US manufacturers will not want to get left behind technologically. That happened in the 80’s, and Toyota/Honda/Nissan grabbed a huge share of the US market. The Korean makers also pose a significant threat. Ford/GM/Chrysler can’t afford to let that happen again.
And not just electric cars, but also hybrids and other efficiency technologies.
Well, Ted Cruz as born in Alberta. Because one of his parents was native born American, so is he. So was Obama, regardless of where in the universe he popped out of the womb. The whole birther thing was a complete red herring.
So the question is: Where were Jennifer Granholme’s parents born? If one was born in US, she carries dual citizenship by birth and is eligible to be president. If both her parents were born in Canada, or some country other than the US, she is not.
