President Joe Biden previewed a plan to extend the solvency of Medicare “at least into the 2050s” without cutting benefits Tuesday, an opening salvo as he prepares to release his full budget proposal later this week.
As we all know, the working class is a fungible commodity and it’s not good business to be handing out money to those elements of that class once they have outlived their usefulness. Let them die and decrease the surplus population.
The party of kill Grandma will stand by the oppress minority of misunderstood entrepreneurs who have done their best to trickle down on the unappreciative masses low these many decades.
No one “earns” much more than they really need to live well on. That’s just a fiction that results from the arbitrary form of capitalism that we currently have, that allows the rich to basically make up its definitions and rules as they please. So I have no probably taxing the rich more than we do, because it’s only theirs because they say so. And it’s not like we’re taking away their luxury jets, yachts or mansions, just giving them a tiny haircut is all. They’ll still do ok. Of course, this isn’t a fiscal, economic or moral challenge, but rather a political one, and there’s zero chance it’ll pass before 2025 at the earliest, unless Repubs lose the house before then, due to, I don’t know, resignations, flips, indictments, “natural attrition”, etc.
More like the 1830’s, if not further back. The Democratic party always did best when it was he peoples’ party. The GOP is the rich peoples’ party, and has been since Reconstruction ended.
It’s a start…of course Dems have a proposed solution, now the ball is in the Republicans’ court. So the anticipation will be-do they engage in volleying, or try to smash the proposal.
Already has taken the populist movement back. In the previous cycle, as much as it pains me, Mango Unchained was the closest we had to a populist. I love Hillary, but she wasn’t a populist. She loved her elites.
Also, is this an actual increase in taxes, or is this just reinstating the previous taxation rates corrected for inflation? Anyone know?
It’s not about getting it by the House now. It’s about defining the Republicans as favoring the rich over elderly Medicare recipients. Biden is just trying to attract Boomers who are on, or about to go on Medicare but don’t make $400k a year. If he can, then he might get the House back next year and actually pass this bill.
Probably not. But we get endless diatribes on this site and elsewhere about how terrible the Dems are at messaging. This is messaging. Put your aspirations out on the table and make the other side tell you why they don’t like it.
