As legislative efforts to expand voting rights hit the brick wall of the filibuster in the Senate, and as conservative courts across the country side with state Republicans’ novel restrictions on the franchise, the third branch of government is preparing to fill in the gaps where it can. And for members of Joe Biden’s Cabinet, homework is due.
Well with what is going on in some states we have to work on all way to get potential voters registered, and then work on getting people to the polls. They go hand in hand.
On this we agree, but more opportunities to register at Fed buildings won’t counteract purging people from the polls and other R dirty tricks. We need real regulation from Congress, not half-measures from the Exec.
Ripe vein for mining an alternative history about the southern colonies refusing to get together into a confederation leading to two countries in N. America the North backed by France, the South by England.
I get this, it just seems by now that they can’t just scream “the sky is falling”/fraud, they need to actually prove that fraud, in numbers so big as to change the outcome of an election.
I’m down to “put up, or shut up” with these fools.
OT: had to share this tidbit. It reminds of time Pence used campaign funds to pay off his credit card and mortgage. Of course he got away with it but maybe this b of a thing won’t.
Boebert revealed in a filing to the Federal Election Commission that she used money from her campaign to pay for personal bills, like rent and utilities. Her campaign said the expenditures were a “personal expense of Lauren Boebert billed to the campaign in error,” and that she then reimbursed the payments, totaling $6,650, through Venmo. Under campaign election laws, it’s illegal to use campaign money on personal expenses. Boebert made the rent and utility payments to John Pacheco, whose address is Boebert’s restaurant, Shooters Grill, in Rifle, Colorado, a gun-themed eatery she owns.
That is the problem with playing troll in Washington, Ms Boebert, your business suffers, and, no, you cannot use campaign contributions to make up for lost revenue.
The reason I do not agree with your sentiment while agreeing with the comment itself is that when people are registered, they usually find a way to vote.
That is you are right that legally registration is the easy piece, for voters it may take the most effort especially mental effort which is why historically it is where voter suppressionists put most of their efforts.
Hence in my view, this is a substantial first step.
