White House physician Kevin O’Connor on Sunday said President Biden is feeling well after his “rebound positivity” for COVID-19 reported the day before.
I suspect the virus has never left in such cases – positive w/ symptoms, then negative and no symptoms, then positive again either with or w/o symptoms – at least where antivirals are involved because the patient is not completely ‘well;’ i.e., the antiviral agent has reduced the viron count to the point of indetectability by testing but the immune system has still not sufficiently responded to neutralize it on its own. IOW it is likely not a case of re-infection although it certainly could be with a bug as infectious as the Omicron B5 subvariant is reported to be.
There is still much unknown about the virus.
I have family, friends and co-workers who have been infected multiple times with the different variants. Vaxxed, unvaxxed and everything in between.

I don’t think I will ever get over the fact that we elected an almost illiterate shit poster with no skills, no brain, and no heart to be president. No matter what happens going forward, that is the most sobering thing that has happened in American politics in my lifetime. It is the biggest red flag I have ever seen - and it screams that there is something terribly wrong with our country right now. So fucking wrong I almost can’t get past it - even after 7 years.
The resurgence after taking Paxlovid is a normal thing, though it is happening more with the omicron version than it did during the initial testing against the delta variant. People who have rebound and test positive do fine, they might get a bit sick again but it will retreat quickly and they recover. It’s most likely due to viral loads surging up a bit as the immune system continues to fight the infection, but within a week Biden will likely test negative again and be fine. There’s not really an understanding why it happens to some people and not others, and at this point they don’t see a reason to change the Paxlovid treatment as it seems to work with or without the rebound.
I had a rebound after taking Paxlovid…I got a bit sick again for a day and then was fine, with some lingering symptoms. The biggest issue is the frustration of testing positive again after feeling like I was past COVID. It’s important to remember to keep wearing a mask for a few days after testing negative, pay attention to symptoms, and take another antigen test if you feel off within those few days, as you may be able to transmit the virus when you rebound.

Our nation has done some great things, that Declaration of Independence started us out pretty well, but our dealings with the Native people, our acceptance of slavery, are not things we should have any good feelings about.
The drive and determination and personal courage that built this country can be admirable but then wiping out the Bison as a way to wipe out or subjugate the Native people is shameful. And wiping out the wolves because they were both scary and marginal competitors was and continues to be pathetic.
Yes, we marshaled our industry to defeat Germany and Japan, but then we went back to being small and ignorant in our international dealings.
I guess we need to grow the fuck up. Socialists are not all bad. Sweden is Socialist, right?

That’s exactly right. Paxlovid acts by inhibiting the 3C family viral protease that cleaves (and thereby activates) components of the coronavirus polyprotein. If infected cells can’t make mature viral proteins, then they can only release at most defective virions which cannot infect other cells, so the RNA titer in fluids (blood, respiratory mucous etc.) drops. But the drug does not block viral production 100% and there will still be low levels (below the level detectable by PCR) of functional virus that can reinfect cells and, once the drug is discontinued, viral production can increase. I just hope Biden has enough of an immune response to handle it.
I frankly don’t fully understand why the Paxlovid course is limited to 5 days. There’s potential liver toxicity, but especially with the President of the United States, liver function could be monitored daily and the drug discontinued if there were any evidence of increased liver enzymes.
