The biggest reason for giving said aid to everyone is that it’s being given to help boost the economy. I do think that a lot of people at the top end of the income levels shouldn’t benefit from it, but the middle and working class should most definitely get said aid. Mainly due to the fact that it will go right back into the economy.
Something that the wealthy have forgotten (or just don’t care about). The velocity of money will always be upwards, and giving more to those who will spend it will make sure to keep a service economy running smoothly.
Not an economist but I’ll try and play one here. Yes money that hasn’t been spent needs to be accounted for (because I don’t trust the T**** maladministration folks to say it wasn’t spent, on paper, but has magically gone missing) and add it to whatever bill gets pushed forward.
As to checks only getting sent to the absolute needy may sound fine but it’s the folks that could use it, not depend on it, to be counted on to spend it now, in all manner of ways. If you only give it to the desperate then they will pay their rent, pay any outstanding bills, but the non-desperate folks will push it out to businesses that need it, to create demand for more employees, and goods.
But then again I’m not an economist.
I think that’s the correct approach. Don’t let the GOP construct a new proposal from the bottom up, which will be nothing more than endless debates a la the ACA that never secure any GOP votes for the end product.
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t make that deal.
Their starting point is way too low. Regardless of what happens, we’re gonna keep losing lives to the failure to properly fund vaccine distribution, among other programs, months ago. There’s just absolutely no profit in agreeing to creating similar, future liabilities.
It’s time to start doing the job that should have been begun in January of last year.
Well the bigger point is they won’t spend the money. The last round of stim. proved that if you want to goose the economy, give it to people who need it because they will SPEND IT, PRONTO.
Complete OT: if you feel like knowing about this asshat. I’ve never been a fan of Lincoln Project. They sucked up Dem donor money which had little impact in voting. That has been reported already. That money should have gone to grassroots groups like Abram managed.
Constitutionally illegal. Their pay cannot be stopped on a whim. Were that so, it could’ve been done for the countless ridiculous efforts to shutdown the government throughout the last 20 years. But no, the Constitution expressly forbids that.
I’d have to hear more about how you’re determining who needs the checks. What’s the criteria? Last year, unemployment went up and we still haven’t recovered. That means a lot of people got separated from income and got dumped off their corporate health care plans. The corporate health care plans are a whole lot cheaper than COBRA or ACA for individuals/families. The equation is therefore: less money coming in, more money going out. And it’s already stupidly expensive to live in America. Biden needs to keep the cutoff at $75,000 or less for individuals and $150,000 for families. And they might as well pay the $1400 that people thought they had a decent chance to get when they participated in the political process. Moving people off the payout is guaranteed to piss off a percentage of people who need the money due to hardship. 2019 was a while ago at this point and we’re still in a pandemic environment for the purposes of the economy/commerce.
