Dr. Michael Osterholm, an infectious disease expert who sits on President-elect Joe Biden’s COVID-19 advisory board, on Thursday sternly rebuked the CDC’s guidance on holiday travel as the country hit a record of more than 3,100 deaths and 106,000 hospitalizations in a single day from COVID-19.
Now THAT’S messaging.
I’ve seen him on CNN. Usually the big picture philosophical type. Didn’t know he was funny.
“That’s like telling somebody, ‘Don’t drive drunk, but if you do drive drunk, these are the best ways to do it.’
“Don’t drink bleach. But if you must, here are some handy antidotes that you may already have on hand around your home.”
About damned time.
“Don’t fuck over the entire country, but if you must just turn on your TV and pay attention. You won’t believe it but it does work.”
I like this guy.
We should have heard this from the Trump Administration in March, repeatedly and consistently, with nobody undercutting the message with tweets or snake-oil quackery. That’s the problem with having irresponsible and incompetent people in positions of authority. You can’t rely on their word or trust their authority, and you undermine public safety.

Putting the problem in terms the average person can understand and relate to rather than bogging down in medical jargon.

When pulled over, it is considered polite to also offer a beer to the officer, as alcoholic beverages are best served as communal offerings.
He’s on MSNBC quite a bit and while I wasn’t crazy about him at first, I grew to really like his bluntness. He doesn’t mince words. Osterholm strikes me as the kind of person that even if Biden asked him to dial it back and present a rosier picture (which Biden wouldn’t do), he’d tell him to take a hike.

Meantime, I’m reading that Dr. Debbie Birx is trying to worm her way into the new administration. According to sources, Biden’s people have said it seems she’s lost the trust of the American people (I suppose meaning those of who are sane and actually believe people are dying). We’ll see what happens.
CDC is, of course, knuckling under to the bonehead nihilists like Gym Jordan calling COVID part of the communist plot to take away Christmas.

I’m sure she has the expertise, but her refusal to stand up to trump disqualifies her. There has to be consequences for those who buckled, including the “good guys”.
I read somewhere something to the effect “that the only way evil succeeds is that good people do nothing.”
