Biden Asserts Every American Will Have Access To COVID Vaccine ‘By The End Of July’ | Talking Points Memo

President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that every American who wanted a COVID-19 vaccination would be able to get one “by the end of July” — the remarks delivered during a town hall-styled interview have been among his most optimistic about how quickly Americans will have access to vaccines against coronavirus.

It’ll be strange seeing people sans masks. It’ll be like they’re naked.

That would be great

I hope this is true, but it is so disorganized. I was hopeful when I got on a regional health email list that started keeping track of how many vaccines going out in the area. Then, the state wanted everything to go through the state established website. I checked, I’m still there but who knows when it will happen.
Speaking of masks, @teenlaqueefa, I don’t intend giving up my mask any time in the near future, even once I have 2 shots. Too risky.

Nor do I, but most will.

Not giving up my mask until they prove that vaccinated people aren’t carriers.

Yes, I wonder if we’ll ever really be completely mask- free. I guess it will depend on how effective the vaccine is long term. Will we need boosters? Will people get those, too?

I may never give mine up, seeing how the incidence of colds and flu are near 0 now.

It’ll be easy now that I’m retired.

I was just thinking about that the other day and wondering if we’ll have to get one of these every year, just like the flu shot. Seriously, it’s a reason to keep wearing a mask since we have no idea how any of this is going to go for quite some time. I don’t see two shots, end of problem with this.

OK, nap time. Did I mention I’m retired?

The President is probably right. Bloomberg reports that about 1.67 million are receiving shots each day, 56 million doses so far, that means over 100,000,000 will be fully vaccinated in the first 100 days. By July any adult who wants to be vaccinated should be able to sign up.

The issue will be how do we reopen the economy. Will employers tell employees returning to work, “no proof of vaccination, no job?”

We actually had that conversation yesterday. The labor lawyers tell me that we are well within our rights to demand proof of vaccination before letting an employee return to the work place. .

Right now it looks like they are wearing underwear or a diaper on their faces. I’m glad the double mask recommendation came out, so some of that gets covered.

That bit had the ring of freelancing to it. I hope we make that goal.

One of the city council members in OKC created a service that would text information about available vaccines in Oklahoma. He had a GoFundMe account so that he could pay for the expenses. Here’s the best part: once he got the money he needed to fund the service, he took the GoFundMe down. He only wanted to be able to pay the expenses. It’s sends me texts whenever any vaccines pop up. Oklahoma allocates the vaccines on Thursdays, but the information shows up on various portals at random times. This makes it much, much easier.
I’m still waiting to be notified that I am eligible. It should be this week, but who knows when that will happen. Like everyone else, I’m ready to live in some precedented times for a while.

Before Kennedy “inspired” NASA to land on the moon by the end of the 1960’s, the moon landing was scheduled for some time in the 1990’s.

With flu, that’s because the virus strains circulating vary every year. That occurs because the virus cycles back and forth between ducks and pigs in China and makes new re-assortments. It’s not clear that is happening with corona, which seemed to have made a one-time cross-species jump.

The other thing to keep in mind is that even if the antibodies wane with time after vaccination, as they no doubt will, memory likely persists for a long time. That means that even if you do get infected, you will have a milder disease, which is the true goal of vaccination. But only with experience can we know for sure.

I don’t know if it’ll be July or August or June, but it wasn’t that long ago that the first shots happened, then it was X number, and now it’s you and me. I’ll sign up today with the county health department. And this aspect is probably more behavioral than vaccine-related but in Pennyslvania the infection rate is way down compared to the catastrophic spike in December and January. Check your state too but for all those times the idiomatically challenged former occupant said we were “rounding the turn,” I think we may really be turning the corner this time.

And, like the flu as Covid morphs and there become different strains that maybe aren’t covered by the current vaccine. Just saying, it’s too early to tell what will happen with this one year old virus.

Biden was FABULOUS last night. To me the high point was when he asked the mother of a young man with early COPD–and who was worried because her son can’t get the vaccine yet–to wait after the town hall was over, so that they could chat and he could see what might be done. This was the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, the most powerful person in the world, taking time out for a mother and her child. WOW!

(The second most telling moment was when he un-self-consciously referred to one of his predecessors as “Barack,” as he does often. Tells you what their relationship was.)

Just yesterday I said to my wife that next winter we’re going to miss the warmth that comes from having a mask.
