President Joe Biden and several Democrats in Congress are poised to unveil a bill on immigration reform called the “U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021” this week, according to NBC News.

“From our Dreamers, to the service workers and farmers pulling us through this pandemic, there are too many relying on this reform for us to fail,” Sánchez said in a statement.

“This plan is not only about fixing our broken immigration system, but building a better one that reunites families, brings the undocumented community out of the shadows and on a path to citizenship, stands up for human rights, addresses root causes of migration, and includes a smart border security strategy,” Menendez told NBC News.

As an auntie-in-law to three amazing and loving immigrants (one who is undocumented), I have high hopes for “U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021”.

Unless 10 GOP senators agree to this bill, Moscow Mitch will filibuster and kill it. The only alternative is to do the right thing and eliminate the legislative filibuster.

Manchin and Sinema — change your minds and do the right thing.

Lol…Sanchez, menendez and alejandro…the GOP’s white fright conspiracy theories and paranoia almost write themselves…

I think they need to bring up the two voting bills up first. They have to pass for the Dems to hold the House and Senate. If you can’t get Manchin and Sinema to do that then I don’t think it’s possible at all.

And not a Slovenian “escort” in sight!

There’s a difference between border security and border cruelty. All countries need secure borders and I’m sure Biden will work at that. But there’s no need for cruelty in achieving that. There’s no need to rip kids from their parents or cage people like animals.

Trumps “border security” was never about security. It was just ramping up a cover for racism and cruelty against those with no options to defend themselves. That made Trump’s dick hard. That’s all there was too it. His followers loved it too. 75 million least we forget. If I was going to spend a long time in America that would scare the shit out of me.

I am more grateful every day for Trump’s banishment from Twitter.

I eagerly await the GOP minority in the Senate approaching this debate in a “bipartisan” fashion…giggle.

Biden just keeps quietly working. A sea change.

Overall great post. Americans, especially conservatives, love punishment of anyone they consider outside their parameters of what is correct. You only have to look at our immigration policies and penal system to realize we are NOT about second chances at all - not even about first chances many times.

I remember a story (probably a podcast) from several years ago where the topic was American prisons and one of the speakers was an expert from Finland. They asked him what they could do in the US to make our system more like Finland’s with low recidivism and humane, rehabilitative conditions. He said the entire system in the US would have to be uprooted and conceived from scratch because it was based entirely on vengeance and punishment.

It is amazing how much we are not who we think we are.

I grew up in one of those “most happy people” countries and there’s way more to prison reform in the USA than just dealing with prisons. Inequality, poor access to good a education, racism, high poverty numbers and so forth. All feed the societal illness that sends a man to prison.

If you like the life people live in Scandinavia, the Netherlands or Switzerland you’ll have to move there. It will never be here.

Totally agree with the first paragraph. Wish I agreed less with the second.

A friend of my wife’s went to Sweden shortly after he graduated from college and spent his entire life there (he just very recently died). He was not a close friend to my wife, but she liked to look at his posts in Facebook and his discussions of how great he thought his adopted country was compared to the US.

Imagine our shock when he became a fervent Trump supporter. It was like one of those twist endings where you have to go back and re-examine the entire book to see what the hell you missed.

My guess is we missed the racism.

If Republicans would rather spend their time attacking democracy that actually trying to solve the great problems of our time, they shouldn’t have any say in how we do it. Kill the filibuster before the next pandemic comes. This Congressional gridlock has nothing to do with “principles” that conservatives have proven they don’t have.

Glad to see they are bringing up immigration reform, but unless the filibuster disappeared while I was sleeping, this bill is DOA in the Senate.

All of the action for immigration for at least the next 2 years will be happening in the executive branch. Beyond rolling back all of the Trump’s border cruelty, the biggest thing Biden can do is investigate the abuses and hold ICE/Border Patrol accountable.

When are they cutting the Checks for the people? That needs to be done already. They should have done those checks all by themselves day one.

I’m sorry, but the Democratic Party just has no political sense sometimes. At least no sense of momentum and striking while the iron is hot. By the time those checks go out at this rate people will have forgotten all about who is doing it, and the goppers will have even more time to claim credit for making it happen. You watch.

Checks NOW please.
