As Josh’s current column discusses, Congressional Republicans are inherently bad faith actors. Conciliatory gestures towards them by the Biden administration will be essentially meaningless in terms of affecting their behavior. Congressional Republicans will compromise (as in the case of the current Covid relief package) only when they see it in their political interest. Otherwise, they will attack and obstruct. Playing nice won’t make any real difference.
What she should have said:
