America’s 250th birthday is coming up, and, just as the Founders intended, our anniversary celebrations will be decked out in gold and the face of our ruler.  President Trump is going full developer mode over the renovations he’s making to Washington, D.C. in preparation for the Freedom 250 events “celebrating the triumph of the American…

Perfect response!!
I was at Woodstock in 1969 and I heard Richie Havens. I remember …not crying, but having tears run down my face during that song. All these years on and it happened again listening to your link…

So, when fees are collected at national parks, where is that money supposed to go?

Instead of boasting about “no tax dollars” for the reflecting pool, it should say “stolen from other National Parks.”

No matter how much gold Trump throws on things, he cheapens everything he touches. So America have fun on our White Trash birthday party.

In truth, throwing gold leaf on everything in sight just makes it all tacky.

Bronze statues don’t need gold leaf. In fact, there is a solid-state diffusion process–gold leaf will dissolve into the surface of the bronze. If you leave it alone, the bronze will develop a protective patina of copper and tin oxides. (This is why the Statue of Liberty that DoJ thinks Der Drumpenfuhrer can tear down on a whim is green. The surface of the statue is copper.)

True story: Oral Roberts commissioned a pair of bronze praying hands to be installed on his eponymous university. After they were installed, they started turning green. (This is the patination process at work.) Rev Roberts blew a gasket and called the sculptor. They ended up polishing up the statue and covering it in a varnish or something to halt the patination. Now they have to maintain the surface coating.

Ah, this would partly explain (at least in part) why they have eliminated the reservation system at Yosemite, leading to an extreme number of excessive visitors. Donny needs gold leaf horses for his crass party.

As I recall, we had a pretty dignified Bicentennial. Maybe it’s the white trash turn to party?

The changes were rolled out to “support strong visitation in 2026,” per the NPS. This even sounds like DT speak.

Trump covers everything in gold because he is stuck in some world where he believes that signals wealth as do his followers and worshippers. He has never progressed beyond adolescence.

His ruination of DC and the 250th is his crowning achievement in tackiness.

He’s got the “My Ass” touch; everything turns to shit.

dangit, there goes another keyboard

The National Park system has had its budget cut year after year, to the detriment of staff and the visitor’s experience - but they have to shell out still more for gold leaf instead of maintenence.

He found DC a city of marble, and left it a city of faux gold wash.

Is it even a mistake that Donnie’s latest enthusiasm butchers the view of the White House?

I am at least momentarily thankful that he didn’t encase it all in hypermodern, black, reflecting glass boxes.
