I think I will pass on this. I have listened to Lindsayā€™s pissy little opening and thatā€™s about all I can take. If we were guaranteed the chance to see a future ā€œjusticeā€ blubber about loving beer, I might keep watching. Any chance Amy Covid Barrett went to school with someone named Squee???

Sounds like she married himā€¦

[ā€œI hope my colleagues on this side of the aisle will not feel shy about telling my colleagues on the other side of the aisle why we think we have a better idea on health care,ā€ he said.]

Graham not only is a worthless fucker, he is a stupid one. The Klobuchar and the Dems should clobber him over that unnecessary (for him) and clueless statement.

That is the kind of statement an abuser makes to his wife.

ā€œRepublicans still havenā€™t come up with any kind of replacement if the legislation they so detest gets dismantled and millions lose coverage.ā€

The GOP plan for the last 8 years or so has been " just do it" and ride out the negative news cycles that follow. Hence Garland. After the fuss they have what they wanted and all is calm. Barrett is going to do or say what she needs to do or say to get on that Court. She will get on that Court. After that sheā€™ll can the ACA and Roe. We KNOW That. You can point to her evasive words of the last two days and cry hypocrisy but after a short period comes the calm and the GOP will have killed ACA and Roe and soon DACA will fall as well. More will come from the same formula.

I expect Barrett to last 5 years and no more. If sheā€™s a True Believer sheā€™ll not be able to live with herself beyond that. And sheā€™ll be immensely unpopular as will all of SCOTUS.

Like I said yesterday, this event will be nothing but posturing and possibly the GOPā€™s last gasp for retaining power.

This openly demonstrates why they shouldnā€™t be in control of anything beyond the opening of a paper bag.

Not wasting my time with this today.

You can call it a last gasp but itā€™s a gasp that will put the far right in defacto control of America for 30 years or more.

There are two lines of questioning Iā€™d like to see: one will surely show up; the second is different .
First, Iā€™d like to see her peppered with quotes from Trump about SCOTUS, and what he is explicitly expecting of her.
Second , regarding abortion, instead of sticking to the strictly legal points, Iā€™d like to see someone discuss female biology and medical facts about pregnancy with her. I think itā€™s quite possible that even though sheā€™s a woman, Barrett doesnā€™t actually know as much as she should, since sheā€™s a conservative. What a justice knows factually is at least important as what she knows of the law. Let these hearings be an opportunity to present some facts to a large audience.

Iā€™m not entirely convinced of that, yet. But yes, for the immediate future, you are correct.

Nothing to be done. Not gonna wring hands over it. My ballot is already in. There isnā€™t much more I can do to stem this. It is what it is because we are what we are.

ā€œUnfortunately, Republicans still havenā€™t come up with any kind of replacement if the legislation they so detest gets dismantled and millions lose coverage.ā€

oh, Republicans have a 2 part healthcare planā€¦ bit much to call it a policy though:
Part A:

  1. Get rich - born rich, steal it, or marry it.
  2. Die quickly on the public dime

Part B:
3. or else, lose the house and go bankrupt, along with the rest of your family

I did not get through more than 2 minutes of miss Lindseyā€™s campaign speech before I switched off. He is such a sad, desperate little POS. The Rethugs are going to put this woman on the court because they can. Nothing we do can do to stop them. All we can do is get as many Dems elected as we can and take the power to keep destroying democracy away from them.

Iā€™m not sure why folks are obsessing on this ā€œhearingā€. Itā€™s a dog and pony show. We know how it ends.

And thatā€™s where Graham and the maggots of the GOP need to stop with the hypothetical ā€˜we have a planā€™ BS and get forced into revealing what that plan is. Weā€™ve listened to this crap for four years and gotten no details in response, other than ā€˜youā€™ll seeā€™. Thatā€™s not governing or leadership. Thatā€™s stupidity and why the Dems are standing around not challenging this daily is beyond me.

They have no plan. They donā€™t want one. Why kill the ACA and replace it? If healthcare and protection for pre-existing conditions is your goal itā€™s already there. You need do nothing. But if you want to kill the whole thing and leave it dead you cannot say that. So you make bogus claims theyā€™re making today. There will NEVER be a replacement. It would have to be paid for too. Youā€™d have to tax the rich for it too. Not going to happen.

I agree with all that you said, but I reiterate my earlier question: why are the Dems not calling this out for the lie that it is? Why arenā€™t they forcing the issue into the court of public opinion, demanding at least Readerā€™s Digest summary of the plan the GOP keep saying theyā€™re working on? Why is this not a front and center issue at all levels of the campaigns, Federal, State and local?

I have a GOP State Senator that is running, locally, on protecting health care for his constituents. The GOP is trying to get rid of a standing program, yet this nincompoop is campaigning on protecting it. Thatā€™s not the platform of the GOP, but no oneā€™s calling him out on it. To me, the Dems just arenā€™t doing enough on this because far too many GOP are getting away with insisting they have a plan to replace ACA, but never actually present it. And they never will.

yet this nincompoop is campaigning on protecting it.
They all are , here in Va. where they voted against it multiple times , they are running ads on protecting it. They LIE thatā€™s what they do

Unfortunately the abused spouse syndrome is very real here. Republicans bully, break the crockery, and laugh at the helplessness of Democrats. The point comes when the battered spouse cannot see that the door is wide open and s/he is free to leave.
