A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.
Ex-Attorney General Bill Barr baldly confirmed on Wednesday what we all knew: The John Durham investigation, which ended up being a total bust, into the origins of the FBI’s Trump-Russia probe was nothing more than political theater–and Barr is “very proud” of Durham’s performance despite the case ending in a speedy acquittal. After all, the former Trump crony got what he wanted.
I sincerely wish that Barr would shut the fuck up and die and be buried in a grave that will need to be walled off because of the amount of urine saturating the plot…
Some context: On the August ballot in KS is a proposed constitutional amendment that states that abortion is not protected.
I am very jealous of this yard sign.
ETA: The Vote No signs I’ve seen around Wichita are kind of boring, to be honest.
The GOP is basically made up of hard and soft Trumpies at this point. The hard ones will support him 110% and say and do whatever it takes to win, while the soft ones will pooh-pooh him a bit while pursuing his core policies of stealing elections, helping the rich and screwing everyone else. The only problem the latter had with him was that he said the quiet parts out loud and was too clumsy and obvious with his corrupt approach to everything. Barr sort of pretended to be the former for a while but is basically in the latter camp, the McTurdle wing of the GOP, that has owned it since Nixon and is now trying to win it back from its Trump wing. The more they fight each other, the better for everyone else.
It’s NOT guNS, IT’s BecaUSe of GaY sex and TakinG goD out of the ClassROOM and HospiTALS (excePT maybe FOR the Catholic HOSpitals thOUGH cathOLICs aren"T real ChristiaNS).
One of the central beliefs of the MAGA ecosytem is that the entire Russia investigation was a hoax: a plot to hamper and discredit the former POTUS. However, the key question that they never ask themselves (and the MSM does not push…) is why everyone lied. Correct me if I am wrong, but it is my recollection that every major official in the Trump administration that had contacts with Russians lied about them at some point. Why?
Given Mr. Trump’s well-known affinity for Russia, and its importance as a geopolitical rival, it should have been easy to make an argument for the frequent interactions: ‘Sure. We often meet with persons connected to the Russian government. Mr. Trump has stated his desire to improve U.S-Russia relations. Also, we have to work with them on many important issues. Frequent discussions are necessary.’ Whether one agreed with that point of view, it wouldn’t have raised any eyebrows or given rise to any scandals. So: once again, why did they all lie?
