Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs (D) on Wednesday urged the state’s attorney general to investigate “potential violations of Arizona’s election laws” after public records showed a pressure campaign following Election Day on the leaders of Arizona’s largest county from Trump allies and top GOP officials.
The secretary of state concluded the letter by quoting Brnovich’s words back to him: “Fair elections are the cornerstone of our republic, and they start with rational laws that protect both the right to vote and the accuracy of the results.”
The reactionaries are clearly not writing laws to this purpose.
I suspect that, if SoS Hobbs wants to see action against these violations, she’s either gonna have to find someone in the affected municipality or the federal government to bring charges.
To all appearances, AG Brnovich, whom I understand is running for governor as a reactionary, ain’t gonna do it.
Brnovich had used those same words just last week, after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld two voting restrictions in the state, a decision that could have dire consequences for voting rights around the country.
And so it goes. The decisions by the Supreme Court over the last month are the precursors to much worse decisions they are going to make in the future. We are being rat-fucked now almost daily and we find ourselves in a corner asking the rats to abide by the rules. The AZ SOS is going to run for governor and the Repubs have already cancelled most of her duties and powers around elections and then passed some serious vote repressing bullshit like not being able to deliver ballots for people which seriously damages the vote on the many reservations in AZ.
This is true in any state with Republican dominated governance. They are busy surgically cutting out the heart of our democracy right now and our institutions are not going to stop them and some, like the SCOTUS, are working to actively assist them.
“I really think it’s a shame that Republicans sort of are both in this kind of situation,” Giuliani said in one voicemail to Gates in December. “And I think there may be a nice way to resolve this for everybody.”
“We’re all Republicans, I think we have the same goal,” Giuliani said in a separate voicemail for Supervisor Jack Sellers (R). “Let’s see if we can get this done outside of the court, gosh.”
“We’re all Republicans, I think we have the same goal,” Giuliani said in a separate voicemail for Supervisor Jack Sellers.
One nice thing about Democrats is that we never assume we all have the same goal! But we reject the goal Giuliani is talking about, which is installing our candidate in office through extra-democratic means.
Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich will, based simply upon personal POLITICAL priorities, categorically refuse to even consider pursuing the grotesque abuses of the election process!
instead he is decompensating over the efforts to provide the vaccine to those who have not yet gotten it …
It [the door-to-door effiort] does not use Americans’ medical records, and instead the official said that the effort uses Centers for Disease Control (CDC) data to focus on areas with low vaccination rates and large “movable” populations – a push that the administration said led to an increase in rates in places like Alabama, Florida and Texas.
Pretty sure that AG Brnovich knows this and yet has no problem writing incendiary letters and making much ado about nothing…
