AZ Senator Implies Voters In DC And Puerto Rico Don’t Deserve Full Congressional Representation | Talking Points Memo

Arizona Sen. Martha McSally (R) said Tuesday that if Democrats managed to gain control of the White House, the Senate and the House in November, the party would legislate statehood to both Puerto Rico and D.C. — a move that she said would be disastrous for Republicans.

Two states have populations smaller than DC; more than 20 have populations smaller than Puerto Rico. Perhaps those states can agree they shouldn’t have representation in the Senate.

Republicans might try a political message that isn’t dripping with white supremacy and hatred of black and brown people. With a positive message for all Americans they could compete in both Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.

Well McSally is only our problem a little longer

Senator McSally can consider the implications of this from her home come January.

Maybe its me, but I don’t understand how D.C. or Puerto Rico becoming states is bad for Arizona. It may be bad for the national Republican Party, but the national Republican Party is not Arizona. I mean I am an American and there are many things that may be good for a political party like voter suppression but are bad for American democracy.

Huh. So the “Senator” who lost an election and then got appointed to her position anyways thinks that voters shouldn’t have a say in their representation.

What a surprise.

My my. More minority voters. What will the Reps do?
Maybe they can simply think of it as a balance to some of the tiny overwhelmingly white states that wield power in the Senate and Electoral College wildly disproportionate to their actual population.
Unfairness is fine to them as long as it benefits Republicans. They’re not even trying to hide that anymore.

Is she trying to capture the White Supremacist vote here? How much could this possibly help her chances?

Hurt her chances? More likely.

Sounds to me like McSally’s idea of another Dred Scott decision. Citizens of DC are only 3/5 of a citizen? What Constitution did she swear an oath to?

Keep telling you, is all about White Christians clinging to power…

“they’re already saying they are going to ram through the most radical agenda we’ve seen in American history. That is out of step with Arizonans,”

And knowing they are also going to ram it up your pathetic loser ass makes it even sweeter.

I also thought that. How very Twelve Oaks of her!

Authoritarians don’t mind seeming unfair.

It’s part of what makes 'em tick.

And the authoritarians I am talking about are those to whom McSally is talking.

McSally is asinine.

“They’re going to make D.C. and Puerto Rico a state and get four new Democrat Senators,” McSally told NBC News in an interview Tuesday. “We’d never get the Senate back again.”

From your lips to the FSM’s noodly appendage sweet heart.

Don’t even try to parse this sentence. You’ll only get a headache. It’s what losing right wingers say to shore up the deadenders brigade who are still there for them.

…McSally’s remarks as an implicit suggestion that voters in D.C. and Puerto Rico did not deserve the congressional representation of the 50 states.

Only because they tend to vote D…
If it was towards R, then there will be North DC & South DC and PR North & PR South!

So Puerto Rice is a no-brainer, with a population of over 3 million.

I certainly don’t mind making this a Wyoming/DC package deal. Either Wyoming devolves into a “District” and we keep the round number of 50, or the more populous DC becomes a state and we end up with 52.
