Arizona’s Republican Gov. Doug Ducey on Tuesday signed legislation into law that opponents have described as a “purge” of the state’s popular early voting list.
“The hope is that corporate America can learn from that experience,” Emily Kirkland, executive director of the activist group Progress Arizona, told TPM…
Will whoever has the ‘laughing chimp’ gif checked out please return it to this thread, stat?
So, if you’re no longer active in their voter list, you are no longer considered a resident citizen of the State, and therefore you no longer have to pay State taxes. The State broke the agreement.
Eleven states now have passed bills to make voting harder. As much as I hate this the DNC, state Dems, progressive advocates, liberal groups and so on need to be out there daily getting people to understand, that although these laws are unfavored and wrong, they still are the law in may places and people need to plan to jump through the hoops. The courts and sadly, Congress, can not be counted on, here.
Everyone who votes in this country in an adult. Many need to act like an adult and understand what obstacles lay ahead for them. Just complaining about how hard it is to vote or how wrong it is to hamper the process of voting WILL DO NOTHING!
Showing up on an election day only to find out you didn’t follow the nonsensical process your state has laid out before you, then going on to social media to whine, will not fix the broken system created by RepubliCONS.
Only voting and voting in large enough numbers to help those who are truly left out of the process, no matter how hard it is, will end this.
repubes don’t have a problem with gerrymandering? then gerrymander stefanik out of a seat in NY (I read that somewhere, liked the sound of it)
repubes want to clear the voter rolls? then Dems should insure each and every R voter who falls into that classification gets purged
they won’t stop playing these games, and these games are going to have an impact that will likely cost Dems votes, as putrefying as it is they gotta play the game or they’re gonna lose, the R’s are playing for keeps, wringing one’s hands in worry won’t change that, waiting for the R’s to come around won’t change that, and the Dems will never get the 60 votes in the next two years to make the changes
So what happens if your ballot doesn’t arrive in time to be counted? Or is thrown out for a signature mismatch?
Do you count as having voted in that election or not?
Also which elections count? Here in vote-by-mail WA state we vote all the time. If you skip the school board elections and a bond referendum are you an “inactive” voter according to AZ?
This whole thing about giving water to voters waiting in long lines is a little hilarious in that the assumption seems to be universal that only Democrats would resort to such nefarious tactics.
Now if you want to sell water to people dying of thirst in the hot sun - well, that is just good business - I guess?
Just like the rush to plug up mail in voting, the Republicans are aiming at Democracy but hitting their own feet.
A Republican state senator who initially supported the audit said this weekend that the operation “makes us look like idiots,” adding, “It’s embarrassing to be a state senator at this point.”
I just wanted to help clarify that he meant to say "It is embarrassing to be a Republican state senator at this point.
The best part of all these nonsensical bills to help continue the grifting off the big lie is that they probably won’t help them electorally. They’ll steal a little more money from their ignorant AF base, win the districts they were going to win anyway, and lose the ones they wouldn’t have.
