A set of Supreme Court decision days, beginning Friday, could feature a body blow to the United States’ multiracial democracy. Louisiana v. Callais “could completely erase all, or most, of the gains of the civil rights movement’s crowning achievement,” Wendy Weiser, vice president for democracy at the Brennan Center, told reporters Thursday. The Court could…
The whole “all votes have to be tallied by midnight on election day is a crock.” In some states they’re already not allowed to start counting absentee and early voting ballots until the polls open. Then they’re going to mandate that all ballots be hand counted-probably, and counting must end before midnight.
It seems like they’re afraid of a Blue Wave, but I bet they have more nefarious tricks up their sleeves.

Prove to the federal government? Never. They knew the day I was born.
My state controls our process.
Don’t pull this patriotism and perfectionism and “government is now the solution if it’s huge” on us. The Constitution is clear. The right-wing conspiracy to destroy every democratic process is worse than a king.
Thomas has been quite clear, for quite some time, that he plans to break William O. Douglas’s record just to stick it to the people who opposed his elevation.
As of today (Feb. 19, 2026), Thomas has served 34 years and 119 days, according to Wikipedia. William O. Douglas served for 36 years and 209 days. He will achieve that on May 19, 2028; he could be counting on serving until the summer of Trump’s last year in office.

his vision of America is only possible if the Court stays in the grip of the right, and that requires clearing the way for a young justice crafted in his image.
Enter Tiffany Ariana Trump.
Let’s have some truth in bill-naming. The next Republican voter suppression bill should be called, if not by them, then by us:
MR WET: Make Republicans Win Every Time.
And get some serious acronym whizzes working with the Democratic caucuses in Congress to give their bills catchy acronymic titles. Also, no more precious “Amelia’s Law” or whatever. Have the title indicate the topic, not the victim.
I’m hoping my application to be an election judge will be approved. At least in my little town of about 9,000, I’ll do all I can to make sure all votes are verified and counted.
I’m inclined to agree simply because Thomas and Alito both have intense cases of Fox News Grandpa, and there’s nothing that sort loves more than clinging on if it means they can cause more misery.
In NM, pollworkers can earn $300 for a 14 hour day.
No problem…

Why aren’t more news sites covering this:
The MAGgot neurasthenia is contagious for much of the media.
But if Thomas leaves the court, what incentive will all his ultra-rich “friends” have to buy him Winnebagos or take him for a toodle on their superyacht?
The VRA is already dead thanks to Chief Roberts chiseling away at it and declaring “Our country has changed,” [from its racist past] so that the “extraordinary measures” employed by the Voting Rights Act are no longer be justified (Shelby County v. Holder).
Anyhow, to leave on a lighter note that somehow is appropriate to me in these times, Cunk says it all:
NPR this evening quoted him spouting some of his gibberish. Something about handsome young men? They need to keep it up and then some. NPR and PBS are now unbound: no federal assistance anymore.
Okay, a late night correction by me, having read the Daily Beast story. Our First Felon, Twice Impeached, was apparently introducing his Gang of Thieves and Syncophants, aka the “Board of Peace.” When he got to the President of Paraguay, Santiago Peña (which he pronounced “Penna”), he apparently felt compelled him to comment on President Peña’s good looks, which he disapproved of, and leered nastily that he preferred young women. I should have checked my reference before commenting.
You can’t dispute that one: "If the USA is so great, then why did they make a USB?"
Bored of Peace - and need my restful sleep.
Trump doesn’t know the processes, and probably doesn’t understand that even within a state the how on voting can be different.
I still can’t decided if this is just some schtick with him, or he truly believes that he is the expert on methods and processes.
