Performative unseriousness is his entire schtick. Clown wants more opportunities to perform clownery.
Doing the same shtick gets old fast.
Not when your constituents are only interested in the circus.
Unless the C-SPAN camera operators just choose to not to include him in their shot, which they might well do.
Remember how horrified everyone was when Michelle Obama wore a sleeveless dress to a State of the Union address? No one seems to be complaining about Neanderthal Greene’s stumpy arms being bared, except maybe me.
So, Tip O’Neill got ticked off when then-junior member Newt Gingrich began using evening post-session one-minute “special orders” speeches to slag on everything the Democratic majority was doing. O’Neill temporarily ordered the C-SPAN cameras, instead of focusing on the member addressing the chamber, to show that Gingrich (or whomever the Republican was) was addressing an almost-empty chamber. When Gingrich became Speaker, he allowed C-SPAN to go back and forth between panning the chamber and showing whomever was at the podium.
And I think we should let him. The antics of the Clownshoe Caucus are off-putting to the majority of Americans – even Boombert’s voter base. The better a look people get at what they’re really like, the worse for them.
And that sound you hear, like running water? That’s actually the Lincoln Project drooling in anticipation.
Great! Let the cameras in.
Please, Mr. Speaker!
Do give Gaetz what he wishes for.
Doesn’t America need a closer look at these House leaders at work?
Something else we saw on the C-SPAN cameras: Dozens of members getting up and walking out in disgust as Matt Gaetz gave a speech roasting McCarthy for being corrupt.
On the surface, this SOUNDS like a good idea…at least until CSPAN shows something “real” that the GOP doesn’t like or wished hadn’t been shown.
Next will come a requirement that the CSPAN director be selected/vetted by the House majority, so that the flow of “information” can be controlled into appropriate propoganda.
I think an actual better solution would be to have all cameras broadcasting simultaneously showing the entire chamber. As tight as possible but showing the entire chamber. Maybe Front Left, Front Right, Back Left, Back Right, and then whomever is speaking on a separate camera, maybe centered in the mosaic of views.
You can’t humanize sleaze.
FIFY?
It should be easy for McCarthy n the rest of the majority to say no to this.
They term “boomerize” is annoying
But those checked jackets…
He’s going to cosplay being a congressperson
If approved, this could be one of the greatest “self owns” in House history. If Gaetz and Co. look like unserious clowns now, imagine people being fed a steady diet of their performances.
In the meantime, with climate disasters, wars, and other things of real consequence going on, we can all watch in real time as people are dying because the R’s want to debate the imaginary evils of Hunter Biden.
The fault is theirs. McCarthy is corrupt. I’m sure Gaetz made a hash of his speech, although I won’t listen to find out. Nobody looks good in that … I was going to say something like tidbit, but I think I’m gonna go with caucus.
Don’t expect huzzahs from those of us with ADHD/ADD or on the spectrum. I might as well be looking at the radio with a format that busy.
