At Least 10 Dead, More Than A Dozen Missing As CA Fire Becomes Deadliest Of Year

GRIDLEY, Calif. (AP) — The terrible toll of California’s wildfires became more evident as a mother confirmed her 16-year-old son was among those killed when an inferno tore through several hamlets in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada this week.

And of course, rather than seeing the humanitarian / ecological disaster unfolding, Donnie will look at this purely from a political view point.

Blue State? No help for you.

There will be no federal aid coming, until at least January 2021.

These lost souls deserve respectful mourning. It’s truly a horrific catastrophe.

Well, Trump said, in effect, “Sorry” to Governor Newsome. Isn’t that enough? The President is a busy man. He’s got TV programs to watch! :worried:

It’s really bad out here…I don’t think the news is really capturing how bad it is. Even those of us who live in CA are being shocked by this, and it’s still early in fire season. It looks like a dystopian world outside my window right now…with another two months in fire season it really could get a lot worse.

I’m in San Diego, knockin on wood.

So you missed the soy bean industry disaster from the Trade War season? You really can’t afford to miss a single episode in this Alt-Reality Show series if you’re trying to keep up…

Will there be a fire ‘season’ from this point forward?

Here on the central coast of California we have 4 seasons. Fire, Flood, Tourist and Election. In no particular order and they can overlap.

Sounds busy. Do you ever get time to be Californians?

Yes, and it’s 12 months long. Cal Fire has been saying that for a couple years now.

I think of this every day.

Jesus Christ. You know, the American economy will truly hit stratospheric levels when President Biden and a Democratic-led Congress start creating/exporting renewable energy solutions and fights to reverse the effects of climate change.

For a party that claims it understands finances, the GOP sure is missing a golden opportunity.

I got to visit San Diego in '18 and LA in '19 for IT-related ‘missions’. In SD, my coworkers took me to a beach to watch hang gliders and drone operators and a falconer. Both visits to CA were memorable times.

There has always been a fire season…when the Santa Ana winds kick in starting in August through sometime in November is basically when southern CA dries out and fires can spread. It’s only the past few years where we are seeing big fires outside of that regularly, and the fires spread rapidly even without the Santa Ana winds pushing them on. Really, we now seem able to get big fires anytime aside from the really rainy season…and when rainy season takes a break (like it did in February) we can quickly dry out and possibly get a fire.

We’ll still see the worst of it during this period, it’s when we get hot and dry and lasts until we finally get the first bouts of rain. But, I think going forward we’ll see fires all year, and really big ones where there hasn’t been one for a while too…at least until everything burns, once that happens it will slow down some. Maybe.

I still have confidence (hope?) that we can reverse-engineer this man-made tragedy. With responsible politicians in charge, that is.
